How long does Mark Hughes really have at QPR? The Premier League Owl Itâs too early in the season, and weâre not really supposed to have opinions on anything yet apparently, but Tony Fernandesâ public backing of Mark Hughes got me thinking â how committed to Hughes is the Malaysian really? Right now, probably totally, but thatâs only because any fears the owner has can be assuaged by his club only having played six games. âIâve spent too much money, our players are too good, at some point weâll start winning.â Okay, thatâs understandable â but at what point do Hughesâ âtime to gelâ style excuses start wearing thin? Nobody who watched Rangers on Monday night can say with any confidence that this side will stay in the division this year. Yes, QPR have a lot of new faces, but there werenât even any signs of developing chemistry â that was eleven players, ten after Diakiteâs absurd lack of responsibility, who looked like theyâd never met each other. It was insipid chaos, and they were unpicked with minimum fuss by a West Ham side with Championship-standard players. Looking at the fixture list, Hughesâ side have West Brom, Everton, and Arsenal in succession, and even the most optimistic supporter would surely be happy with anything more than a zero return from that trio. Itâs possible that Rangers will head into November still on two points, and still bottom of the league. How are your nerves, Tony? Even through November, there are ominous trips to Stoke, Old Trafford, and Sunderland scheduled⦠Hughes is in a bit of hole already, and if, for example, he reaches Christmas in the same position that he finds himself in now, Fernandes has to swing the axe. The Premier League doesnât make special dispensation for teams who spend a lot of money in the Summer and then fail to settle during the season, itâs an irrelevance. Itâs all very well castigating Chairmen for their short-term thinking and their hire-and-fire policies, but thatâs a product of the game they operate within and not impatience â with every passing fixture, and with every Mark Hughesâ post-game interview laden with disclaimers about his defence or his ânew facesâ, Harry Redknapp is going to look more tempting to Fernandes. Look at the teams at the top of the league, and look at the ones at the bottom â there are no asterisks there, with no significant alterations these sides will still be in the same positions in May.
Agree, but waiting until Christmas is way too late and too dangerous. TF - hope you are hard at work now selling our Project to the new guy.
If we are still rock bottom come mid-end November Hughes will be gone......any further than that and you've crossed the event horizon, where no manager will have enough time to change it round.
Realistically if the run continues 5 – 7 games, then Harry will come in…………. Jan transfer window will then hopefully see Dawson and Defoe to QPR (Yep in my dreams !!!!!!!)
I really hope he turns this round so we can revisit these comments. I am not convinced he will but it is hard to reconcile the performances against Chelsea and Spurs with what I am currently reading on here
Not the Redknapp thing again. Tell me, is there even one shred of evidence that he might be interested in coming to Loftus Road? After his experience with Portsmouth you would think he would want to stay well clear of big spending risk-takers like us. He may well be looking overseas for his swan-song post IMO.
Not convinced Redknapp would be the answer to the QPR conundrum anyway. His melty face disturbs me. Re-assess where we are after 12/13 games, we'll be out of the relegation zone by then.
In my opinion he has 3 games to get a win. If we lose to West Brom we must beat Everton at home. A draw will probably see him through to the next game but a loss at home again would really put Fernandes in an akward position. He doesnt want to get rid of Hughes and to be honest I dont want to see him go but we have to start winning and picking up points.
Interestingly, the bookies still think there are four teams more likely to be relegated than ourselves. Norwich, Reading. Soton and Wigan although our odds are shortening! Why haven't they made us dead certs? They would if they made their decisions by some of the doom and gloom in this forum! They understand that teams go through bad patches and come out of them. Injuries return and a little bit of luck changes for the better (certainly could not get much worse). Let's hope tomoorow is the day!! Great performance (such as against Chelsea and Tottenham and second half Man City and second half West Ham after Adel came on and before Samba got sent off) AND a win, please God!!
Silly question really. Everyone knows its a results business. I think if he loses tomorrow it's tic tac time, which couldn't come soon enough for me - personally. Still I hope we win and the guy proves us doubters wrong but I can't see it. I feel for the owners, if we let this run longer we may get stuck too many points behind, but then with a new manager will take time to bed in as well. Decisions decisions, I'm glad I'm not making them !
Easy Brother it just needs some translation: Here you go... sums up after match NOT 606 reporting for me
