It's not that big a deal. Selling programmes won't get that much money. It's once every 2 weeks, not the sort of job that is going sustain you. Ok it's annoying but not the end of the world to the people who lost their jobs. They should have put a thank you in the letter admittedly.
Well, so far only one person seems to know anything about it, and that is the the OP. I have asked around and drawn a blank, we will have to be patient until something official comes up.
As they will lose their free seats only a couple of games into the season, they have every right to feel shafted. Money must have been useful as well...probably paid for a holiday or Christmas if you are on a low wage or pension. However, the worst thing must be being treated like this by a club you love. No confirmation of this, but would be a funny thing to make up.
If this is true then its a crass move - and if long-term program sellers have been treated as described then this is extremely poor management. I always buy a program and have loads in the loft going back years, which i sometimes sit and read for hours when i am supposed to be sorting the loft out ! Twice already this season i have not managed to get a program as they were all gone by the time we got to SMS about 20 mins before kick-off - never had this previously even with sell-out crowd.
Wait? So they're paid? I thought they were volunteers. That's a brilliant idea then, making a bunch of people unemployed during a recession for absolutely no good reason! That's really going to get the economy going!
It's amazing the amount of money my family wasted for about 5/6 years. Think about it: The burger stand in the corner of the Kingsland/Chapel, bloody expensive spent about £10/11 there per game plus £3 on a programme where we read only a few pages then never read again. Amazing how many hundreds of pounds you spend over the space of a few years that come from simple things like programmes etc...
Its great being in the Prem but for me and my teenage sons ticket prices go up so its no replica Liverpool all red shirts, no pies or goodies in the ground and of course no programme. Also they started a loyalty scheme on tickets this season when it should have been in operation in div 1 and the championship i would have racked up a tidy few by now.
I guess that they will be sold just inside the turnstile by those people stood there doing nothing unless there is a problem with ticket entry. The new entry system has probably reduced their activity by 80-90% and so they could be utilised to do another task. I'm not sure how I feel about this, as they are hardly volunteers and get a commission and free ticket. I do agree that it is tough on them if they are not given the chance to buy their seats as a season ticket. I am not up in arms about it though; life sometimes just isn't kind.
Think that is right but could have been handled better. A couple of weeks notice and a letter of thanks wouldn't have cost the club anything.
I did "hang on" before I posted. Yes it's a tradition but its not going to stop me going to watch them if I have to buy a programme in a different way. I made the point we need to see what the alternative is. My point is its crazy to suggest they ask us - they'd get a mixed answer and will still have to make a decision that would then upset some people in one way or the other. They are running a business if you don't like whatever the new way is don't buy it, if they lose revenue due to the change they would (should) change back. So in terms of hang on, right back at you!
Real shame . I always buy one , and if they did not even get a thank you , well thats just piss poor .
I'm 18 years old now, but seeing Santa Claus most Saturday/Sunday afternoons is what i'm gonna miss. Is it 100% true then?
I asked a progarmma seller this question once and he told me to mind my own effing business so I am rather pleased that he will be upset at this news.
