Quite simple, what would your team be for Blackpool? I'd like to see: -----------Hamer------------ Wilson---Cort--Morrison---Solly -----Razak----Hollands------ Green-----Stephens-----Kerkar -----------Fuller-------------- Subs: Button, Evina, Dervite, Jackson, Wagstaff, BWP, Hulse. We dominated the midfield playing a neat passing game during our 4-5-1 against Blackburn, but lacked a physical presence up front. Its harsh to drop BWP I feel, but Fuller has taken his chances and BWP is not effective when alone up top. Despite my aversion to right-footed players playing on the left, I'd continue with Solly at RB, as I have little confidence in Evina, plus Solly seems to get forward well when on the left, and I feel that Wilson played far too well to be dropped. I'd like to see Stephens further up the pitch, not necessarily as an 'attacking midfielder' but an 'advanced playmaker', so that he can do what he's best at - spraying the ball along to the wingers and neat through balls to Fuller, whilst not having to worry about defensive duties. All I've seen of Razak is a Youtube video, so I haven't got much of a clue about him, but I'd like to see him get a chance. In reality I can't see this happening. If Jackson is fit then he'll start I'm sure, and I don't think CP will opt for a 4-5-1 unless he absolutely has to.
Agree 100%. Posted that exact team on another thread (on here or Charlton Observer) - it plays to the individuals qualities. I'd also play it with the intention of the 3 behind Fuller to pretty much be left to their devices up top and only focus on attacking the opposition defence. Think we would see a completely different side to Stephens game. One that will show his £2million worth.
Evina over Wilson for me, I think Wilson is perfectly adequate cover at right back. Unfortunately for him our number one right back is fit so he shoud be on the bench IMO. Solly is half as effective on the left and I think the sum of Solly and Evina is greater than that of Wison Solly. CP agrees with you though. Agree re Fuller up top, I don't think Jackson is fit... If he is then I would have him in over Krekar. I thought he played well (wherever the ball is, he is close to it) and has a very good energy level, but i thought last night we missed someone with a decent delivery. The amount of times we had the ball wide and the cross was poor (against Almunia who is notably poor at crosses). I think if Jacko was playing we would have won the game
I did see your post actually, though I didn't note each individual player I did see that you had Stephens in an advanced role which of course I completely agree with. I know there will be (and has been) a lot of calls for Evina to come in at LB, and I do feel sorry for the kid, but I think he needs a bit of time still to develop, and throwing him into the side when morale is low between both players and fans, will do him no good whatsoever, and could instead be detrimental to his development as a player.
I think it's telling that by all accounts we played much better v Blackburn with 5 in the midfield than with 4 v Watford. I like WWOCB's team a lot.
-----------Hamer------------ Solly---Cort--Morrison---Evina ------------Wilson------------ Green--Stephens--Kerkar--Waggy/BWP -----------Fuller-------------- the full back swap hasnt worked so far. time to give evina a go. wilson was a defensive midfielder previously at stevenage and can get away with not being able to win a header there
I thought last night that playing LB was starting to affect Solly's game. He is our RB and though Wilson has done well I'd play our reserve LB Evina. I wouldn't drop BWP, just play him a bit deeper. Does anyone know much about Razak? I don't. So I'd play the same team as against Blackburn except Evina for Wilson and BWP playing Jacko's role.
Green - Fuller - BWP Kerkar - Hollands - Wilson Evina - Cort - Morrison - Solly Button That'll do for me. I don't like Stephens much at the moment. The hype has gone to his head. Hamer's a bit of an old woman. I'd like to see one of the youth players on the bench instead of Pritchard. If we are losing, chuck 'em on and see what they can do.
Ponders - I know one moment doesn't make a game (and I wasn't there yesterday) but have you seen Stephens's pass through to Fuller for our goal? It was perfect. Without him I don't see where the guile is going to come from. Also, Green's left foot is useless, so putting him on the left would greatly diminish his potential impact.
I was there, Captain B, and the pass was sublime. But, for me, that was the extent of his contribution. He strolls around like he doesn't want to be there, and really believes he is Percy Prize-Marrows. As for Green, he can mix it up with BWP and create enough chances for Fuller. Clutching at straws? Probably.
Nor do I, FHB so I asked my Pompey connection and he said "very raw, big, quick, but not here long enough to make any lasting impression" Actually, after only 12 senior games in all, it'd be pretty difficult to make any sort of impression. I simply don't know why he's here.
