I think I prefer the entertaining, attacking football. By the sound of things it is defensive errors that are the problem and if that can be sorted, adventurous football will pay off. On the question of formation, can I offer this observation - it's a little difficult to tell when just listening to the commentary as opposed to being at the game, but I got the clear impression that we seemed to lose little as an attacking threat when we moved to a 442. Having said that I think we leaked another after that so it may not be possible to make a proper judgement as to whether or not a backline of 4 is going to better than 3. My point however, is that if the view is that 4 is a safer bet, maybe we can do that without losing our attacking edge. What are peoples opinions on that matter?

Over 6 games, it's better to win 3 and lose 3 than draw all 6.
Unfortunately there aren't many teams that play flowing attacking football and score lots of goals without conceding. Look at the Man Utd 1999 Treble winning team, they conceded **** loads but you always felt like they would score 1 more than they let in. Right now we aren't doing that, but we are creating chances so that is a positive.

i prefer what ive seen under Bruce than any other manager i care to remember in nearly 40 years .

Its far harder to get it right up front than in defence , its been about 7 or 8 years since City were capable of scoring week in week out and that comparison is a bit unfair as the team we had then was far better than most of the opposition .

I think we forget how tough the Championship is , there is no duffers in this league , a good 12-15 would be considered promotion candidates at the start of the season , Leicester have just got their season going .

TBF Bruce hasnt really invested the money in many players - other than Prozzy everything else has been on the same scale as our contemporaries

Changing managers is a complete mistake usually I agree. I meant the play-offs last season before he cleared off.

I always think of the Newcastle team of that era, Man U could get away with it because they had the best players.

Agreed. Time to dust down the Danny Blanchflower quote
“Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom”.

Few tweaks at the back, which as a bloody great CB himself Brucey is well capable of. Few more signings and we'll be fine.

I actually walked away from Saturdays and last nights matches thinking of both, How the hell did we manage to lose them? I still went away feeling as though I had enjoyed watching us play, rather than many of the times when we won under Pearson and Barmby when I thought,l OK, we won, but that was ****e. Silly errors and not having the rub of the green (ie, Penalty shouts, offsides etc) are costing us at the moment, But I believe Bruce will sort things out defensively. We are creating and having more shots on goal than any other team in the division and I would rather it remain this way. Bruce's attacking philosophy is very refreshing and it kind of reminds me of how Blackpool were a few seasons ago when Holloway stuck by his principles and they eventually came good. Keep it up Brucie!!

As I said on another thread, stupid mistakes have cost us in the last two games, which can be eradicated on the training ground and by bringing in a loan signing until our injuries heal. We more than matched Blackpool last night who got to the playoff final last year and on another night we would have got at least a point. We are still definitely a work in progress team but I'm more excited about the future of this club than I was when NP or NB were in charge.

In response to the original post, i would rather watch our current team than any of the teams in the last 3 seasons.

Personally I'm happier. I've said for a long time that I'd rather win a game 3-2 and then lose one by the same scoreline than have a 1-0 win and a 1-0 defeat. I'm not sure what you're talking about though, Wok Tiger, as in Pearson 's only full season here we finished 11th, and when he left we were 8th. By the end of the season, after 31 games under Barmby, we were still 8th.

Not once under Pearson did we see anything like, say, our performance against Millwall two weeks ago. We did, however, get plenty of games like the one against Peterborough on Saturday - Burnley away, Millwall away, Leeds away, Middlesbrough at home, Macclesfield at home... The one against Macc stands out especially as not only did Emile Sinclair fill his boots on that occasion too, but it also followed a remarkably similar pattern to the game against the Posh. Funnily enough that was probably one of Negative Nigel's more positive games, as we actually battered them for most of the match. It was a very adventurous foray into the tactical wilderness for Mr Sideways Passing.

Also, Pearson and Barmby wouldn't have been able to attract the likes of Aluko, Quinn, Elmohamady, etc either. Neither of them attracted any players better than those three.

This statement is definitely true in barmby's case but I think Pearson and his backroom team can attract decent players

Which we will, it can't last forever. We are still work in progress as a team but with a couple of additions (whether that be loan or signed in january), we will be fine
