Morning All, A 2-2 draw last last, I would have settled for that before the game, but as I hear it, we could have won it in late on when Diouf hit the wood work, shame really, as 3 points would have put us in 4th position. What were your thoughts on the game last night. Drury started in place of White (again). Varney and Norris joined White on the bench, and no subs were used. Im a little puzzled by this!!! Warnock took responsibility for us not winning last night !!! He gave the job of marking Kevin Davies to Rodolph Austin, a Jamaica international who has spent his career in Norway and is largely unaware of Daviesâ battering ram reputation. âThatâs my fault, I gave Rudy Kevin Davies and he doesnât know much about him,â said Warnock. âI thought we coped with him really well in general play, but he got us on the set-pieces.â
A point away from home is always a point won as long as you win your home matches. I am concerned that our defence is no better now than when Grayson was in charge (not in practice anyway, on paper YES they SHOULD be), we still need to score three to win a game. Morning btw
Morning all. Great result. Big change for me this season is the attitude. When we go a goal down. I'm always confident we can still get a result. Last two seasons under Grayson, going a goal down early inevitably would end up in a hiding. Most teams looked a lot better than us. Maybe it was a motivational thing with Grayson. Approaching quarter way this time and were as good as anything else in the division. Lot of injured players back after international break as well and who knows, maybe a couple of good new ones. Win against Barnsley would leave us nicely placed
Think a settled defence is key. Lees and Pearce are fine together, but we're constantly changing full backs...anyway, I'm sure Warnock's noticed this and he'll do his best to sort our defence out
Morning All, I agree that settled is best, but ask yourself when we last had a settled defence? Think you probably have to go back to the Premiership for that! I honestly do believe that this defence will be better than any of Graysons once they bed in fully. Another factor for us shipping goals is that we've had a period of playing many the best teams in the league in a short space of time. I think there are more good teams this season in the Championship than ever before. Everyone will ship goals - either that or they won't score many. The teams that get the right balance will get promoted. I think we've got a chance of doing that if we carry on with more of the same, plus a little progress, and a few superb signings on loan or in January. Glad to report that I'm not despairing this season in the way that I have EVERY season since we left the Premier League. Even when we got promoted I watched so many games through my fingers!
I still claim that our defence is better than last season (although I didn't see the bolton game), its more we are struggling to keep possession further up the pitch therefore they are under constant pressure and concede just as many goals as when we had a **** defence. A point away at Bolton isn't bad on paper anyway and while its dissapointing knowing we coulda won, we can move on. We've now played a huge portion of the better teams in the league and have an easier run for a while
Still some good teams that we haven't faced yet - Leicester, Palace, Brighton, Blackburn, even Barnsley on Saturday won't be straightforward- they won 5-0 at Birmingham after all! Consistency as always will be the key, and at long last there are signs we may be finding some. A long unbeaten run is the order of the day, winning our home games and picking up points away from home would leave us nicely perched come January. All the other teams will be dropping points against each other.
LIE We drew with Blackburn mate, they played us off the park for 30 mins then we battered em for rest of the game n should have won.
Yeah, but then Barnsley lost 2-0 at home to bottom of the table Peterborough, and failed to even score against them! There's plenty of freak results in the league, I wouldn't look too much into the 5-0 game against Birmingham
Birmingham have appointed the wrong manager hes awful and looked good at town cos he spent **** loads of money
If you go onto the Hull forum their fans believe that they have had one of the hardest starts playing most of the fancied teams, a couple of the Leicester fans felt that they too had faced most of the harder opposition. Peterborough hadn't won a game then they went to Hull and beat them 3-1 then midweek make it two on the bounce winning 2-0. There really isn't easy and hard games any longer in this division, it is all about teams in form and out of form, ironic that Wolves are above us now, the only team we have kept a clean sheet against and they would have been top of the table had they beat Crystal Palace at home yesterday, instead they suffer their first home defeat of the season. Palace were bottom with Peterborough after 3 games and including the cup game they lost their first four and now they too are above us.
Although I agree with people saying there are no easy games in this league, I prefer to think positive, and the fact is we have played a lot of the top half teams. Plus, our next 4 games are against teams placed 16th, 21st, 20th and 18th, and 3 of the 4 are at home. And they are not walkovers, I know that, but........... ..........with SG as manager, I used to regularly wish I had not counted my chickens, but there is a bit more steel about this Warnock team, I think there's every chance we wil get a good haul out of these 4 games and be nicely inside the playoff places by the end of the month
We came back numerous times in the 2010/11 season after conceding the opening goal to rescue a draw or claim 3 points. This includes; 2-1 v Swansea, 2-2 v Hull, 2-1 v Palace, 3-2 v Burnley, 1-1 v Boro, 2-2 v Pompey, 2-2 v Hull, 3-3 v Barnsley and 2-1 v QPR. 17 points collected after conceding the opening goal, very good points tally. Last season under Grayson was even more impressive with 13 points collected after going behind first up until the end of January.
