I gave this a fleeting thought a few weeks ago but immediately dismissed it saying to myself its definitely not going to happen again but bugger me, it has... Last year, we were on a decent run of form when we went to Watford and battled out a 2-2 draw but we then went on to lose the next 2 and draw the 3rd game immediately afterwards and lo and behold, its only gone and happened again... let's hope the sequence doesn't continue... Tonight's performance began promisingly, we started with the front 2 that probably most CIty fans want to see and the early signs were good and if Pearson had found the back of the net with that flowing move, I think it might have been so very different.. But I have to say, something was very wrong at AG tonight - the atmosphere was terrible, flat as a pancake, the worst home support for ages and I think this eventually started to spread to the pitch as the early sparkle disappeared and the movement all over the pitch becoming more and more static.. In the meantime, Millwall worked out the way to create panic and chances at the back by means of repeatedly playing a right to left raking diagonal ball across our box which causes utter panic and which we are simply incapable of defending and inevitably and as predicted, you know who scored - the bad news is that if Millwall figured it out, you can be damn sure the rest will too... Fonts and Tangle at the back = rabbit in headlght defending. Put any kind of pressure on them and they panic and either hoof it up the field or pass it back for the keeper to do and any good work in midfield is undone. It pains me to say it as they wear the red shirt but whilst great strides have been made, we will never progress meaningfully until we have a solid core at the back and at the moment, we clearly don't... That said, I think we are still not defending as a team, When our 2 central defenders get the ball, we should be dropping back to take the ball from and not expecting them to distribute. I think people genuinely didn't know what to expect tonight and the uncertainty transmitted itself throughout the ground. About the only good thing is that we at least got a point but we as supporters need to take a damn good look at ourselves as there was way too much moaning about misplaced passes and it was very disappointing to hear. Come lads, 3 points from Leicester next and then a break to re-group...
Didn't hear any moaning at all in the Eastend, second half mind didn't hear much singing either, thing is if you go away from home you would have already seen poor football like that, its disappointing to see players in red who have not a tackle in them. Mccinnes City are a soft side and that last night was seen by fans getting a reminder of last season again.
Sometimes a little reminder of last season is good. As long as next time it's a reminder of us trouncing the league leaders home and away.
Forget all this about centre halves nobody worked the cross for the equaliser, don't press and let teams cross the ball they will score. Second half Millwall looked fitter and stronger. Citys ball rention was poor. That affected the crowd. The fans will rally, but seeing players busting guts will help. Going forward City can look exciting, but backwards!!!
