This lad is a cracking player and if he is a mate of Tiote... maybe our midfield enforcer can have a quiet 'word'...
The only stumbling block as I see it is the transfer fee but.. if Ba does go for £7m then £9m more on top of this gets the finished article in this lad (106 goals says it all). Matters would be further helped if Ranger disappeared...

106 goals in 149 appearances over the last four seasons has put Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia on the wishlist of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Newcastle rumored to be interested.

The Magpies will be looking to swoop for the forward in January but it will cost around £16million to prise him away from Russian club CSKA Moscow. However with Demba Ba’s future on Tyneside still uncertain, Doumbia could be the perfect replacement and even improve Newcastles chances of finishing in the top four.

But who is Seydou Doumbia? Well he’s got everything a Premier League striker needs; power, pace, strength and a habit of being in the right place at the right time.

He’s a player of similar stature and style to Jermaine Defoe and he could be just the player Newcastle need to shake up their forward line. Cisse, Ameobi and Ba are all similar in physicality but Doumbia could add a different dimension to the attack and not to mention a lethal goalscorer.

Doumbia seems like a genuinely exciting prospect looking at his goalscoring records in Switzerland and Russia, but there is still a question of whether he can cut it in the Premier League. Plenty of players with good reputations haven’t lived up to the price tag in England, Afonso Alves (Middlesbrough) and Andriy Shevchenko (Chelsea) are just two names that spring to mind, although Doumbia looks like he could fit right into the English game.

If he does choose Newcastle over Lazio and Napoli he will feel very at home in the Magpies dressing room with a healthy contingent of French speaking players and international teammate Cheik Tiote.

Seydou Doumbia has all the tools to make a move to England a success and could give Newcastle that extra push into the Champions League, but this transfer will all depends on the future of Demba Ba. Whatever the situation come January, the Toon army will still have some fantastic forwards to cheer on and cherish.

This would be an absolute dream signing. He's so quick, and if we played our 4-3-3 formation, I think he could be deadly.

However, he's at a rich Russian club who's most likely paying him 80-100k+ and he's rated highly, and will most likely cost 15m+

    Can't see it happening.

The same for us - quoted price £16M or so.

The familiar stench of bullshit. Pity - would like him in the PL.

Great player on my FIFA team, 28 goals in half a season with Ba and Cisse only on 13 and 14.....

Obviously means nothing, just thought I'ld mention it.

    Rofl.

Well the fact that he's 94 for pace and in the high 80's for finishing, didn't come from no where mate. He's a great striker.

He's mint on FM to <whistle>

I don't see how he'd score freely with no service, so 4-3-3, 3-2-1-3-1 (I shall demonstrate below) or else a new winger please Mr Pardew!

The classic ol' (just made up) 3-2-1-3-1...

    ----------CF

    ---FL----AMC -----FR

    --------MC/DMC

    ---WB-------------WB

    -------CB-CB-CB-----

    Classic... <whistle>

Isn't Doumbia the name of an old Boy Scouts camp fire song?

Maybe it's just a case of the 4 and the 2 being put in the wrong order.

    Would seem daft to me.

We have a proven striker in the Prem who is very happy and who we can tie down for a fraction of the £9m difference between Ba's proposed transfer fee and this fellow's tranfer fee. Why gamble on someone making the transition when you've got the finished article already ?

Good player but I'd prefer we kept Ba.

......and in no way shape or form is that lad 24!! He's at least 36/37. You can tell by the fuzzy hair which african fellas tend to develop once they get to a certain age! We have another Martins/Milla situation I suspect.
