Ahh right, i thought he had left permanently. Realistically if he stays injury free is he good enough to be a part of your starting 11, I always enjoy seeing young players we've let go doing well for themselves
So is Ryan bennett but for some reason has been put at the bottom of the defensive pile! Lambert paid upto 5mil for a young talented centre back not to be put on the scrap heep, behind Turner
Personally, I don't really see the hype of Ryan Bennett. I think he is a good player, but was he that brilliant last season to be in starting line up every week? Good, yes and has a very bright future. But I said before season he will probably be on the fringe of the squad. Adding to that I think come end of season our centreback partnership will be Bassong and Turner. Original intentions and I think it'll probably pan out one way or another that they both deserve starting places. Still think Bassong is Hughton's best signing so far.
I was amazed to see Turner still playing in the Premier League, he was good at Hull but they were a dreadful team and made him look better than he was, at Sunderland he was sent off a couple of times and looked average and I just assumed he was going to drop down the pecking order or drop down a division but you guys have given him an opportunity. If he turns out to be a good purchase then I will obviously eat my words but the guy isn't Premier league quality and personally there are far far better defenders, even in your own squad so I would be surprised if he lined up in the green and yellow again this season as he will undoubtedly leak goals
if bassong is still out on Saturday, it will be a complete shocker if he (turner) is not dropped. terrible, terrible defending for the first two goals
it is amazing how quickly our fans can make their minds up about a player and decide they should never play for the club again. i recall the same being said about russell martin, john ruddy, michael nelson (the most interesting comparison). michael turner is a good centre half, a premier league centre half. what the issue is is that he is bang out of form and costing us points. that doesn't mean he's crap, it means he's struggling for form. there can be many reasons why it's not happening for him right now. sunderland played with a very deep back line and we are playing with a higher one. that could be a contributing factor as to why he's not settled yet. how or why anyone would write a £1.5m player off based on three games is beyond me but shows a startling lack of both trust in the management and also understanding of the position he plays. you don't necessarily just come in and perform to the best of your ability straight away. i've not been impressed at all with what i've seen of him so far but then i wasn't impressed with michael nelson at first, but i didn't slag him off and say he should bugger off. no, i made sure i sang his name when he played and applauded when he got something right on the pitch. i noticed when turner made a good block at the weekend it was met with ironic cheers - what a bunch of twats we have supporting our club sometimes. embarrassing - no wonder he is struggling if he gets stick when he does well.
Turner was not at fault for second goal.Look at the crap ball by Garrido, putting the guy under pressure. FFS get behind the players
He did have the opportunity to pass it back, hoof it out in fact anything but turn with a heavy touch and then flounce as the ball is put between his legs. Like I said, if he turns out to be a good player I will eat my words but I've felt for a while that the guy is not a Premiership player. He has all the physical attributes but it's between the ears that he is lacking and he will undoubtedly cost you goals from time to time.
he didn't get a shout though. he was a bit **** for the 2nd goal but it was mainly garrido's fault. turner was much worse for the third goal. he's out of form but as i said above he won't return to form if our fans behave like morons and give ironic cheers when he does do something right he's not trying to be ****! he's always lacked pace but its his bravery which made him a good player. he's shying away from the ball and challenges at the moment - that's blatantly a form issue, not an ability issue. he made a great block second half which showed his potential and did so at newcastle the other week too, where he played pretty well with the exception of their goal where he was sluggish stepping up, but again, that is down to playing a system he hasn't done before with the higher line. he's being made a scapegoat and although his performances warrant heavy criticism, he should not be cast aside based on three poor games. he's still a good defender and at 28 a good age.
I would also point out for the third goal, if turner would have been quicker getting to his feet instead of laying on the floor and giving up saurez might not have been able to put the ball across the goal. just a honest observation!
I still maintain that Garrido was at fault for goal 2 and Howson had a good chance of clearing the ball after Suarez had gone round Turner for goal 3.
yep, garrido was poor for the 2nd goal. i don't think any of our defenders exactly covered themselves in glory for any of the goals - they were all avoidable as indeed were the two we scored! i maintain had the snodgrass chance gone in to make it 1-2 we'd have got a result from the game but for them to score immediately afterwards kicked the stuffing out of our very bright start to the half.
You surprise me Supers, looking for any positivity or indeed any common sense from a Guru post on our board!
Supers, I'm trying to be serious here, i watched the game on football first (My word how good was Sarah Jane Mee looking BTW)and every single time he cut back inside!
