Despite Diarra's injury not being as bad as feared, Jol expects to sign a new defensive midfielder next week. This is taken from an interview today : I'm not even going to speculate, although Bandit might like to ! Reo-Coker's been linked with you for quite a while now. Good, solid player, when he keeps it simple. Surprised he hasn't been picked up already.
Jol said it wasn't Reo-Coker in the original press release and that it was a player from abroad. Today he revealed a little more saying it as a No4 that he knew at Hamburg - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/29/jols-transfer-clue The money must therefore be on Mikael Tavares.
Tavares? Oh please no. We already have the statue of Michael Jackson. I can just imagine the piss that would be ripped out of us if we signed someone called Tavares. Can we make it a clause in his contract he has to change his name. Although knowing our luck he would probably choose a double barrelled one - Bucks-Fizz or something.

According to reports it is indeed Tavares http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/121005/jol-confirms-tavares-set-fulham-deal-182454 Presumably waiting for this is why we haven't yet had Jol's Thursday/Friday press conference. I'm a little surprised that he's coming on contract since Jol had previously said that it would be on a non-contract basis and (another presumably) it's been this issue that's held up an announcement.
After all the speculation it is Tavares, ex-Hamburg 29 year old defensive midfielder on a free http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/05/tavares-signs

German press reports say that the Tavares deal is a performance based contract - http://sportbild.bild.de/SPORT/fussball/international/2012/10/04/mickael-tavarez-comeback-in-der-premier-league/vertrag-beim-fc-fulham.html_
