I would be gutted if I found out that my kids are using. Drink culture is disgusting these days but I do not have a anti drink policy, my kids can have a watered down glass of wine or shandy at special occasions from a young age. Which in theory will make alcohol not big deal when they get older and would not feel the need to experiment.

    How ya doin' Aber?

Apologies to any Jacks who have an issue with him, but have had a few conversations on the Cardiff board and must say I can't see what all the fuss is about; have always got on well with Aber!

As for the drug non-issue; if I was walking through town on a dark night I would rather bump into a stoner than a piss head! Any drug can be abused and, in my opinion, alcohol is just about the worst one! Have never had any trouble with cannabis users, but have had a few run ins with those 'high' on alcohol!

Have lost count of the number of assault stories in the press where the defence was 'he acted out of character and is so sorry for his actions but he had a lot to drink!' - have never read a similar story about a cannabis user! Alcohol seems to be an accepted drug - and yes! It is a drug! It seems that it is socially acceptable to drink yourself into a stupour, whilst smoking cannabis is somehow viewed as social deviancy! Go figure! ;)

cartoon head your spot on dude for some reason because of its classification people assume that it safe 2 use>>><laugh>......they couldnt be more wrong>>>>>lets put alcohol in the bracket of illegal and what would happen 2 the houses used 2 let people take this drug and later spill onto the street causing violence and all sorts of vandalism, tell me how long would these drug houses selling alcohol be open for>>>>>>>>>>>people like swan is a mug who cant see past the laws set out by draconian britain.

swan tell me what horror stories have come from a freely open usage of cannabis in holland swan>>>take this place as the template and gis me the facts of why cannabis shouldnt be sold over the counter in a civilised country.

Ok im no stranger to substance use as a youngster. but there are negative sides to any substance which i personally went through.

There is growing evidence that people with serious mental illness, including depression and psychosis, are more likely to use cannabis or have used it for long periods of time in the past. Regular use of the drug has appeared to double the risk of developing a psychotic episode or long-term schizophrenia. However, does cannabis cause depression and schizophrenia or do people with these disorders use it as a medication?

Over the past few years, research has strongly suggested that there is a clear link between early cannabis use and later mental health problems in those with a genetic vulnerability - and that there is a particular issue with the use of cannabis by adolescents.

    Depression
A study following 1600 Australian school-children, aged 14 to 15 for seven years, found that while children who use cannabis regularly have a significantly higher risk of depression, the opposite was not the case - children who already suffered from depression were not more likely than anyone else to use cannabis. However, adolescents who used cannabis daily were five times more likely to develop depression and anxiety in later life.

    Schizophrenia
Three major studies followed large numbers of people over several years, and showed that those people who use cannabis have a higher than average risk of developing schizophrenia. If you start smoking it before the age of 15, you are 4 times more likely to develop a psychotic disorder by the time you are 26. They found no evidence of self-medication. It seemed that, the more cannabis someone used, the more likely they were to develop symptoms.

Why should teenagers be particularly vulnerable to the use of cannabis? No one knows for certain, but it may be something to do with brain development. The brain is still developing in the teenage years – up to the age of around 20, in fact. A massive process of ‘neural pruning’ is going on. This is rather like streamlining a tangled jumble of circuits so they can work more effectively. Any experience, or substance, that affects this process has the potential to produce long-term psychological effects.

And I think its not a coincidence that 4 of my friends have committed suicide over the years and all were drug users. I would most probably put three of them down to weed, Rubber do what you want as long as its not being pushed to kids then I have no problem just you sound like them defending your cannabis use.

As going back to my scum remark it was only banter not directed at a particular person. (take that as an apology)

look dude people have these problems (mental illness) without the drugs>>>>fact of the matter is figures are needed 2 back up a false claims so if any one did use cannabis at any time then it must be that that caused the illness <laugh>.....come on now its all smoke and mirrors from the powers that rule us.

the evidence is there in many people use it without any problems what so ever....myself included///////////prof nutt was giving a task by the government of finding problems in certain drugs used in britain.....these test were carried out and the findings were that the socially accepted drugs on the market booze, cigs were more detrimental 2 peoples health and wellbeing than cannabis lsd and mdma.

like cartoon said i know what crowd of kids i`d wanna walk past if i had a choice of drinkers or smokers.........there ends the lesson <peace or violence><the choice is yours>
