Not all words are spelt as they are pronounced. Here are a few examples, and the English are probably the worst.
The name Cahill in English is pronouced Cay-hill. The ''a'' is pronouced as a Ay when its a ''Ah''.
The name Moran is pronounced mostly with soft ''A'' but in England its pronounced as an ''Ah''
How about the use of Ian Callaghan's name, the English persistly use the ''G'' which is incorrect as its pronounced everywhere else as Callahan.
Jamie Carragher's name again with an incorrect emphasis on the ''G'' is pronounced correctly as Carraher. Then there is Smith and Smyth ''the strong ''y''.

If you intend to give us a lecture on pronunciation and grammar, then perhaps you should correct your obviously deliberate mistake:

" Here is a few examples.".

If Steven Gerrard was French, and his name was spelt exactly the same, it'd become 'Stefan Gerar'. Like Olivier 'Jee-roo' , who I just call 'Jirood'.

True Story, the kept referring to their Why-vonne, then they filled a form out and wrote Yvonne down. Oh how we laughed. I mean she was 10/11, How stupid must they be, not to correct it after a decade of people pulling them up about it?

If we are talking about the stupidity of the English language, does someone want to explain Gnome to me???

In Thierry Henry, Henry is pronounced 'en-ree', not as it is spelt. Never heard too many people complain about that.

The swiss town Basle is sometimes pronounced, incorrectly, as 'baal' (peculiarly because that's what the French call it!) rather than the correct 'baa-sell'.

I'm quite happy to call Coates, 'co-a-tez', it doesn't particularly bother me. But we all have our own unique bugbears, don't we?

    Here's to diversity*! <cheers>

*Not the **** dance troupe!...I believe diversity is an old, old, wooden ship! <ok>

Gnomes, according to legend, were small troglodytic humanoids. Gnome is the singular of gnomes. Hope this helps. ;) <ok>

Edit: Blast! Saint -- the complete Alan (B'stard)! -- beat me to it! :)

What about the Spanish pronouncing all names beginning with J as a ''H'' and they use their teeth when pronouncing words too, it sounds like a lisp but it isn't and makes a th sound. Rafael Benitez in is pronounced in spanish as ''Rafael Benitezth'' Listen to Guilliame Balague.

You lot are all ****ing deranged - if he's a scot, he's called 'Jock' or 'Jocky'...

Come to think of it, we've been missing Jocky at the back - perhaps Coates is the new Jocky...

its clear that if is uses the SA pronuncation he'll be considered world class but if he calls himself a scottish sounding name he'd be a donkey.

if we was so scottish why would his parents name him after a never ending story character.. sebastions.

btw what is the "correct" pronunciation of jesus. what would it be in ancient hebrew? cos it can't be JEEEE SUS can it? HEY SUS sounds better.
