I find it funny that a week ago, Leeds fans were writing blogs left right and centre about how they're going to be in a relegation battle, 1 week and 2 wins later, they're now saying they're going to win promotion!
The players lost a competitive game to lower league opposition, so yes, I'd feel like a right tit if I were a Hull player that night. It's a common misconception that nobody gives a **** about the Cups. If we had gone all the way and won it, would they have thrown the trophy out and claimed that it doesn't matter? Of course not. Cardiff showed everybody last season that with a bit of determination you have a real shot at winning. It's only once we get knocked out that people say 'Oh it doesn't matter, it's a tin pot trophy that distracts us from the league'. At the start of a season we enter 3 cups and the aim should be to win as many as possible. Bradford City and Swindon Town fans probably don't think it's a waste of time. In fact, both teams play as many games as we do and are still in the cup, because they tried harder. You could argue that promotion from their respective league isn't worth as much; perhaps true in monetary terms but it certainly isn't in the context of achievement. If you balance the three losses out this season, which is the worst? The one against Blackburn, who were relegated last year and are real promotion candidates; the one against Leicester who will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season; or the one against a League One team who, after ten minutes, we were well on course to beat. I came away from the Keepmoat embarrassed. I wasn't throwing my season pass away or calling for the managers head, but I was pissed off that night, make no mistake. And from the reasonable travelling support, it sounded like they weren't too happy either. EDIT: Swindon and Bradford play more rounds of the FA Cup and in the Paint Trophy as well. So they actually play more games than we do.
football is a funny game like that. I have said all along, currently we are not a promotion worthy squad, its quite dependant on our position come january and whether we are able to put any investment into the squad to push on from there. Similar to what Reading did really (although they were already in good form come then I believe)
While I think your right that it is embarrassing to lose against lower league opposition, its not the real aim of the season. You should win games like that (I dunno what sort of team you put out) but in all honesty there isn't a serious chance that you or any second tier team could win it so at the end of the day its not as important as the league objective. While nice to progress though
It was a fairly strong team from us, most of them starting players or bench players at worst. As I said in my original post, Cardiff had a real chance to win it but didn't. The difference on the day was penalties and as most people will agree, that's a lottery. As I said before, if Swindon get to the final and go to penalties, it will go down to whoever puts the most away.
Leeds have just been bought. You can look forward to normal service being resumed (in your case, get used again to having that crick in your necks as you look up to us riding above you in the stratosphere ). In a way its good news for you, after all you need a proper cup final to look forward to, and we do feel we have been letting you down a bit recently.
Not yet you haven't. Although it is looking imminent. I'm sure good ole Ken will do something to bollocks it up though
Clutching at straws there a bit. These foreign jonneys have been very hot on complete silence (even Bates has managed to button it) so the fact they have gone public means its a done deal. Technically you are right, but its as good as. Your best hope is they turn out to have less desire to spend on the team than generous-to-a-fault Kenneth. Doubt that personally, but we will see.
Not clutching at straws at all, merely pointing out a fact that it is not yet a done deal - which you accept in your post. I would remind you that in June (I think) the deal was "as good as done", and look what happened then. If I were you I would wait until the ink is try on any sale and purchase agreement before saying anything.
Fair point ! APM - I did not say it was as good as done in the summer, if others did. I am saying so now though. The letter they have written to the Bahrain Stock Exchange shows its really happening. You are right technically, but won't be losing any sleep over it. Just waiting to get home to crack one open and celebrate.
What you do in the privacy of your own home is none of my business As well as some of your posters saying it, it was also reported on the BBC that the deal was imminent in June... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18644182 I do anticipate that it will go through, but deals can and do collapse.
I am saving that for when the deal is signed, mate, until then its only going to be a beer or three. On the BBC, I see a difference between "Leeds United investment from Middle East 'close' " in June and "Leeds United sale to be managed by Bahrain investment firm" but hey ho, we are not disagreeing here.
No we really don't. The last 3 times we've played Leeds before last week the games were all marred by constant cheating by your lot. It's embedded in the Leeds United culture, you've been doing it for decades. Now you have Warnock so it's even worse. Last week you were all furious at the ref for a meaningless free kick on the stroke of half time, despite the fact you should have been down to 9 men and not had a dodgy penalty - that kind of reaction shows just how much your fans expect the ref to give you every week because you've been conning them for years. Your fans also booed Faye for being hurt in a horror tackle from one of your ****s. We are absolutely nothing like you. We're a football team.
Rather win an actual major honour with that cup than a mere promotion. Not that you lot would know much about silverware. Different people saying different things at the opportune time. Shocking, I know.
