I agree with a lot of your points. However, it may be easier to explain your methods to the younger players than the older ones. The younger players are more inclined to listen as they don't know any better. With the likes of Downing and Gerrard, they are seasoned internationals and its too hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Gerrard can be forgiven for that as he owes Liverpool absolutely nothing, he's earned the right to do whatever he likes. Downing hasn't earned those stripes, and seeing as he won't conform to the managers wishes, the only route for him is out of Anfield.

Its like the early 60s under Bill Shankly. Shankly got rid of 24 players because they wouldn't conform to what he wanted. However he kept Ronnie Moran who also didn't do what what was asked, but he had earned his stripes. Shanks was a little bit more leniant on him. The same applied to another local boy Alan A'Court who was reaching the end of his career in Shanks early spell as Liverpool manager. You could also say the same thing about then club legend Billy Liddell, who spent two seasons under Shanks.

Shanks, in his early spell, again like Brendan Rodgers blooded some kids, Ian Callaghan, Roger Hunt, Gerry Byrne and Tommy Smith. I do agree however Brendan is making strides, and it may take time for these youngsters to mature, and for it all to fall into place. We still need a few signings to back this all up. The good thing is Brendan unlike Hodgson, isn't signing over the hill journeymen looking for one last big pay-day.
