Would be interested to hear from those who were there tonight on his performance. He was a big player for us in the first season in league 1 and looked top quality so what does he look like now with Saints now looking from a premiership perspective? The progress we've made really is incredible...
How many times do we have to go over the same topic? He was average at best. I'm sure people will think otherwise because he was quick, strong and played for us in a successful season. Tonight was more of the same, kick and run.
I don't see any other threads on Antonio...sorry I couldn't make it to the game and am generally interested in how he looks now in comparison to our standard but don't have the time to trawl through hundreds of posts to find conversation about it. If you don't like it, don't reply...
Always thought he was quality but their had to be a reason why Reading kept loaning him out and never really giving him a full chance. Low championship, High league one at best.
Whispering Dave made a comment about Michail Antonio late on during the match tonight. He said he'd expected much more drive and penetration from the lad than he saw, and reflected that he'd been a really good player for Saints back in League One. It made me think of how fortunes can change. I think some of us believed back then, that the best thing for Antonio would have been to have stayed with Saints, when he came to the end of his loan, and I think he really wanted to, aswell. But Reading decided to keep their improved player, and actually wasted his time, in the end.
Kept looking for him and couldn't spot him which tells you too things...my eyes aren't the best and he didn't stand out.
He was average tonight at best, a few early flurries but nothing after that, he didn't even look as quick as when he was with us. The whole game never got out of 2nd gear tonight though!
I didn't think he was top quality at that level. He was exciting and a fans favourite, but his second touch was a tackle.
If we had been able to grab him earlier I have no doubt we may have made him a better player, he looks now to be carrying too much weight and has lost some of his verve, still has the long throw weapon, which was used sparingly and ineffectively last night, I like the guy but Premier class he ain't.
He hasn't had a lot of first team football since he left Saints either so hopefully he can get back on track in the Championship, I'm sure that I remember that Pardew wanted to take him back but Reading wanted to keep him for no apparent reason. Good luck to him anyway. On a completely unrelated note I saw that Iago Falque was on the bench for Spurs last weekend.
Indeed not. I believe he would have been a far better player today if he'd have stayed with Saints though. Probably never Premier League standard, but who could tell..?
Thought he was there best player, had a lot of creativity and imagination. Didn't do that many runs, but I thought he played well and could made himself more of a threat. Good luck to him though
