Particularly given the timing of yesterday and how much Liverpool fans had been demanding respect and justice from the world after the recent stuff about Hillsborough coming to light. I'd like to say I can't believe it, but sadly it doesn't actually surprise me all that much. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19703504 I'm not going to comment any further because I don't want to get into this debate again, I just wanted to say how completely and utterly disgusted I am having just read this and find it one of the more despicable things I have ever seen. I accept they will be in the minority and it will only be a handful of idiots but I just hope the wrong-doers are identified and that this 'justice' that the scousers appear to keen on right now is appropriately meted out to the offenders.
I agree it is despicable, in the same way that Rodent was taunted by a few mindless idiots over his brain tumour! As much as I hate him (Rodent) for his lack of management skill whilst in our employ, I could never, ever, EVER condone that sort of behaviour!
I can't say I'm surprised at all Liverpool fans are .......... well I'd better not elaborate on my opinion of them here. I'm tempted to say that these idiots are just fatherless ferral youths from the inner city council estates, but in reality they are probably quite 'respectable' people in day to day life
It probably wasn't their fault though, no doubt someone (probably the police) hacked into their accounts. (naughty Munky, I said I wasn't going to comment further )
Par for the course nowadays. What a sad use for a communication tool with the ability to connect millions. Why can't people stop at that "point" is it the anonymity? I call the referee as I see his performance and if he has a **** game I'll say he's a **** referee but it never even crosses my mind to wish ill of him or go after his family, because that's just stupid.
this sort of thing is beyond contempt - its on a different level altogether. yet still there are some people who don't accept there is a problem. for anyone who doesn't think there is a problem in english football with fans behaviour, take a look at stan collymore's twitter feed every now and then. frankly, he'd get ten or twelve banged up every single day for racist comments.
I see no reason why we shouldn't comment further. Just because of the Hillsborough report doesn't mean Liverpool fans are immune from criticism and this is appalling behaviour!
I'm not a tweeter or a facebook reader. But can these people be traced? Aren't there links or addresses that the police can investigate?
I only said I wasn't going to comment further as I know I upset some people with my honest comments about the Hillsborough affair last week, a thread which our superb mods made the excellent decision to close at exactly the right time If I was going to comment further I might cheekily suggest that yellow and green cards should be left on the seats of the Barclay so when held in the air the name HALSEY is spelt out on whacking great letters - good idea or not?
Sometimes you don't even have to look beyond this site to find the neanderthals that masquerade as football supporters. It's an inherited disease (not through parentage) that could take decades more to be eradicated.
Totally agree with your OP Munky, but it is unfortunately just par for the course these days. Hatred is becoming more and more a part of the game, between fans, between players, and also between managers and all of the above and refs now apparently. Sign of the times I´m afraid, but it´s ruining the game imo.
Tony, I'm with you on this one! I'ts mindless ignorant idiotic comments from Liverpool fans, and they disgust me! No one, and I will repeat that again NO ONE, should wish Cancer or death on any other individual! These people need to take a very long hard look at themselves and their history. It was only last season that one of their fans got onto the pitch at Carrow Road, and was inciting the Barclay. I was also witness to some appaling behaviour by Liverpool fans at FA Cup finals in the early 80's. I saw people witout tickets literally being thrown over the outside fences, others clambering through the barbed wire at the top of the fences, clothes torn and blood running everywhere! I met people who had been set upon by gangs and had their tickets and anything else they had stolen. I could go on, but diginity stops me. Wembly certainly was OVER capacity on those occasions, and in my opinion extremely fortunate that no one was killed or seriously injured because of it!! The people at Hillsborough did not deserve to die and I hope that they receive the justice they deserve, their family's certainly have my deepest sympathy, but Liverpool as a city, as a football club has an awful reputation, and they need to remember that and assist the police in dealing with these low lives!!! Mark Halsey is a good referee and as far as I know a decent man, he does not deserve this! But I'm afraid there is not current law that says that you can't say this sort of thing on social web sites, I doubt the individuals concerned will be prosecuted!
I do feel sorry for referees, it's enough them getting taunted for being a ******, or they don't know what they're doing. It's a tough job which is made harder by FIFA's dinosaurs not wanting technology. Some of them are arrogant yes, but I've heard on numerous occasions Mark Halsey is one of the best referees because he speaks to the players about decision rather than telling them to shut up, to be treated like that is disgusting. Obviously it is a very small minority of Liverpool fans who have taken to twitter to say it (and probably never been to a game), yet they probably would throw an absolute paddy if anything was said about Hillsborough. Liverpool fans abusing Adeyemi, and now this. They're disgracing there club at the end of the day.
Absolutely 100% spot on ILD, despite the fact most people appear either oblivious to history or to scared to say how they really feel you have nailed it on the head as far as I'm concerned The timing of this simply beggars belief, in a week where Liverpool fans are demanding respect and the sympathy from the world, certain parts of their fanbase choose to show zero respect and nothing but sheer ignorant and dare I say it evil contempt to a fellow human being. This disgusts me as much as anything I can recall in recent memory. I now have even less respect for them than I have ever done, and that really is saying something!
I think it's great that a referee can do this. It means the players respect him more and even if they feel he got the decision wrong they can see why he made the decision. I really respect Halsey as a referee especially due to the fact that he decided to come back after recovering. I do remember fans chanting 'you don't know what you're doing' at him during a game he refereed at Carrow Road shortly after he returned and I then saw someone after the game posting on twitter that it is disrespectful to chant that at him given what he's been through. But the chants were clearly about his ability as a referee and nothing else. Chances are the majority of those chanting at him didn't know of his illness anyway.
Trouble is we always hear as an excuse, and not just solely for this matter, that its only a minority. And of course the majority of EVERYONE involved in football are decent law abiding people who care about the fellow human beings and the reputation of themselves and their club. To be honest I could lose my temper each and every newscast about football. Players, managers, owners, directors and fans within the game are not only bringing the game into disrepute but it is the apparent belief that it is their right to act as they do. Leaving aside the Hillsborough incident, we currently have the ex England captain who to my memory has a catalogue of less than savoury behaviour being praised by fellow professionals because we have to ignore he is a low life but just concentrate on his football. Personally I can't see how you can separate the two. Now we have Rio Ferdinand making political capital out of it and saying he should replace Terry. And Anton will take a private prosecution if the FA don't act. We have the police being berated for their part in the Hillsborough tragedy yet to make a cheap political gain, they are being praised because some Tory knobhead (sorry, old habits die hard) swore at them and said nasty things. All this going on while Ray Winstone is portraying a the police as tough guys in the movies. Alan Shearer sits and ponitificates about players behaviour on the pitch and yet although he was a great player he was one of the nastiest buggers ever to play. I could go on and the list would be enormous. I wish to some degree that I didn't love sport in general and NCFC in particular. Then I wouldn't get upset so much.
I'm guessing my suggestion of a yellow and green HALSEY mosaic is a non-starter, but I wll be a bit disappointed if there isn't at least one rendition of "there's only one Mark Halsey" from the Barclay faithful at some point during the game.
From what I saw of the game (only the last ten minutes (plus obligatory extra 6 Man Utd mins)) after another Liverpool foul I managed to lip read Mr Halsey saying "It was a foul, shut up, go away" or something along those lines. Guess he was fed of the Liverpool players constantly surrounding him. But then Referees do bring in game abuse on themselves, especially when they are in charge on a Man Utd game. They must be scared of Fergie, and give them the benefit of at least 75% of decisions. I think we all know that our penalty claims this season, would have all been given if it were Man Utd. However, no matter what sort of game a ref has, or any player, manager has, they do not deserve this sort of abuse. It was bad enough Gunn having two season tickets thrown at him during a game. That was not deserved, so this sort of abuse can not be tolerated.
