..to deserve all the abuse and ridicule he's getting from us town fans? Believe it or not, this is a serious post. Clegg, in my view, is just the middle man. He is not the one that makes the decisions, that comes down from ME. If ME, which i'm sure has, has told Clegg to reduce the wage bill by 50% and has only got, say, 2million to spend on players this year, then he just makes sure that PJ is aware of this, and makes sure that PJ implements this. Ok, so we havn't signed any great players, and a few have slipped through the net, but surely ME is the one that sets the wage structure, and what he's prepared to pay a potential target, not Clegg. Now, i'm as angry, frustrated, and down right p'd off with our performances and results of the last few years, but if anyone is to be blamed, then that has to fall squarely on the shoulders of, firstly the players for being lazy and not giving a toss, then the manager for picking the team and working on the training pitch with the guys, then the coaches, well, for not coaching, then finally the owner, who is not prepared to up the wage bill, not Clegg, he has F%%% all to do with our laughable performances. The players we have are generally decent, for me it's down to the coaches and the management...poor management, poor choices, and piss poor tactics.
The charge sheet against that useless **** is as big as the others in my view! The one good thing about Clegg is that he's always good value when giving statements to the press. Take the painting of turnstiles as an example. Oh and what about the dithering over whether or not to allow fans to attend for nothing the abandoned game against 'Boro last season. Or how about the complete lack of any coherent plan or communication to us poor fans who have had to suffer over the last 4 seasons. This is not a dig at you Stretchy but you wont be getting much sympathy for poor old Cleggy on here!
He's back from the Olympics then! I wondered what had happened to the 'comedy turn' at PR. “I continue to have every confidence in Paul and his ability to turn things around, and I hope that he will do.” So basically the 'master plan' is to sit and hope! Priceless!!
It's hard to decide whether ME or Clegg are to blame. But Clegg runs this business in his empire, Cleggs probably been told to start making Ipswich profitable, Clegg then makes the decisions on how to that. Yes he's a spokesperson as well but his job title is CEO. Coincidence or not but Clegg came in then a few days later keane did, the rest is history, above all thats really why he gets the abuse.
That, and because he's an arrogant, knows better than everyone else but been in football 5 minutes ****!
I think that is a very good question what does he do.............if he is involved in securing deals, choosing managers, budgeting and public relations then he is certainly at fault and should go, and if he is not involved in any of this he is a passenger and should go.
Lancs has his e mail address . Maybe its an idea to ask him to explain exactly what his rôle is in the day to day running of the club especially with regard to the hiring and firing of playing staff . I think thats a fait request from the fans .
Also if nothing is his fault/ responsibility, then I am sure for a such a generous salary we could all do with a job like that!! Actually, obviously a role where " no experience necessary" then we'll worth applying for??!!
Its an idea that I have been trying to get across for ages. Up until recently the majority of posters on this board have been blaming him for not finalising deals and generally messing up transfer activity but Mondays Evening Star webchat suggested that these talks were now mainly handled by Evans so it looks like he if free from blame on that score. As it appears ME is now in charge of transfer talks and obviously in charge of our seasons budget both in terms of transfer fees and wages then a lot of the current issues appear to be firmly at his feet. If this is correct then it leaves an even bigger question mark over Clegg's role. Removing personnal from the remit and it leaves things like attracting investment and sponsorship but then we are owned and sponsored by the same group - does ME even want large amounts of outside cash coming in? if not another role that Clegg doesnt have. The problem then becomes that his role must revolve around promoting Portman Road (gigs, conferences and events) and promoting the club to new and wider audiences. If you dont want external business investment then you must want more revenue from bums on seats. (never going to happen with Charlton tickets at £36.50 where I was sitting but thats a whole other story) My issue with this is he doesnt come across as anyone who cares passionately about either football or the club to actually sell the brand. I think if you put him in his comfortable environment (Rugby? Henley Regetta?) then he would speak articulately and with a great deal of knowledge. I dont doubt he is an extremely intelligent bloke but he doesnt come across as someone you can speak football about and as a football clubs figure head that is worrying
lets look at the facts Clegg is thick! Clegg has no clue about being successful in Football! Clegg has no clue how to interact with football fans! Clegg has this dumb **** vacant expression! Christ i can't believe we didn't think of it before, he is a ****ing Norwich Fan!
