My top sparky tip is... To quickly and easily make a soldering iron, take the lead from your kettle, insert lengths of thick wire into the end and twist together. Plug it into an electrical socket, switch on and voila. I actually did that when I was a kid. Gave it to my brother to hold while I switched it on. BANG!
