I watched "2012" last night 2Hrs 50Mins of absolutely stunning special effects. All ruined by a terrible script! Sometimes a film can be so good visually and fun to watch the story doesn't matter. This wasn't the case here. My kids recommended "Prometheus" now normally I like Scott's films but I just ended up bored. Even though I liked "I-Robot" I wish they had used the more cerebral thought provoking parts of Asimov's book and less action sequences. The Hulk "Hulk" was always one of my favourite comic book characters, they still haven't got it right yet. So! Which films did you think could have been better with a little more effort? Three films I thought were well scripted, acted and the perfect balance of acting and action. "Life of Brian" "Kelly's Heroes" "The Italian Job" (The original of course.)
Piggy, let down by a poor script. Rise of the Footsoldier, a bit far fetched, especially the Man Utd fight scene. Green Street, piss poor ending. I'd have knocked seven shades of **** out of that posh ****.
With Greenstreet before viewing I thought Elijah Wood was miscast. He was actually the best character and performance in it. Reminded me of a lad knocked about with us when we were young. He couldn't fight worth a damn but had the heart of a lion. The rest of them were totally unbelievable. I agree the ending should have been better.
I thought that horrible old **** that played Tommy Hatcher was ****ing great, you know, the main Millwall thug. He was in Mean Machine & Daylight Robbery too. The skinny lad who played Zebedee in Football Factory is a bloody good actor, it's just every part he plays, he's a right arsehole. He was in Goodbye Charlie Bright, Rise of the Footsoldier, Piggy & his character's are complete cocks in everyone, lol.
speaking of elijah wood, i watched eternal sunshine of the spotless mind for the first time over the weekend. jim carrey in a serious role was surprisingly brilliant... if you can wrap your head around charlie kaufman, i highly recommend it.
One film I thought was great is Dead Man's Shoes. Didn't click on until right at the end that the kid brother was a ghost. On the other hand, a **** one & such a let down was Outlaw with Sean Bean. Had potential but what a let down. The only character with any balls was the hotel security guard.
big fan of dead man's shoes, i like most of shane meadows' stuff, especially this is england. toby kebbell makes for a first rate nutter as well; you seen rocknrolla?
What part did he play? Rocknrolla was one of Guy Richie's worst imo, terrible film. Edit... Oh aye, he played Anthony. The guy that played Combo in This Is England is a good actor too, cracking nut case.
overall i wasn't a fan of rocknrolla, just thought he was good in it. otherwise its a worse version of guy richie's earlier stuff. aye, stephen graham is quality, hard to believe he plays such a moron in snatch compared to this is england (weird how that came full circle too...)
What's your opinion of Jason Statham? He made some cracking movies here but since he went to America he's done nowt but churn out ****e. I used to be a Guy Richie fan, Lock Stock, Snatch were class imo but his last few were ****e.
i like jason statham, but for every snatch there's a death race; he's made a lot of ****e. on his day he's a good actor though (and i must confess if mean machine is on, i will probably watch it...).
dags? oh, DOGS. yeah i like dags. haha. favourite scene has to be when they go coursing though. haven't seen the crew, will have to check it out.
BSC, The Crew is a class film. Set in Liverpool, one poor ****er go's through hell in prison. Give it a go, you wont regret it.
Best gangster film ever was Get Carter (Caine, not Stallone). Mean bastard running round the picturesque North East with a cob on. Classic stuff...
Quite agree Sid. An all time classic ruined by the Yanks as was The Italian Job. How the **** he through that fat **** off Gateshead multi story like is beyond me. I know it's not a movie but have any of you seen Our Friends In The North? Gena McKee is class in that. First rate actress. Mackem lass anaarl.
They do over-produce things, but their crime stuff can be top notch e.g. Goodfellas, Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, Reservoir Dogs etc. Or The Sopranos and The Wire on TV Haven't seen Our Friends In The North, but hear good things about it.
