Just a bad day at the office, nothing seemed to fall for us yesterday and NP found a good way to counter the 3-5-2 by using the wide areas. We should have switched things round much earlier and the subs were a bit weird, but Proschwitz looked much better than his first couple of outings, so there's some positives to take from the game. One negative, is that Evans seems to be getting worse by the game, I was hoping we'd see Oli come on at half time, we'd completely lost control of the midfield.
Yeah I hope Oli stays fit for Saturday because we will then have the same team as against Millwall, which should be too much for Posh
The biggest positive from yesterday will be what SB learnt about how the 5-3-2 system operates when put under pressure. According to Burnsy and Swanny (I know I know ...) Leicester continually dropped long balls into the spaces left behind our full-backs when we were going forward, which gave them their best attacking chances. Whether that's the case or not Bruce will now get the chance to tweak the system and improve it (but hopefully not switch to 4-4-2 or one up front). One possibility is that against the better teams away from home the default formation is 5-3-2 until the early pace goes out of the game or until it's obvious the opposition are offering little in attack. Then we switch to 3-5-2 when they tire. It certainly seems risky to play the least defensive formation when the opposition is at their most dangerous. Anyway I trust Bruce to disect yesterday's performance and in the end it will prove to be a blessing in disguise.
I'm not so sure we weren't playing 5-3-2 at the start but conceding a goal after 5 mins dictated that we then had to push the wing backs on
As i've said, Leicester deserved their win yesterday. But, i don't think there's any need to worry for City, it was an off day and yet we nearly nicked a point at the end. It took great positioning by the lad on the line to stop it, as Proschwitz's header was passed everyone else. Leicester are a decent team and will be up there come the end of the season. Some good goals by Nugent- perfect hat trick, wasn't it? We won't play well in every game, so if you get points after playing badly you know you're doing something right.
Very well said. Every team has had an off-day this season. Two of the top 4 teams in the Championship, ourselves and Blackpool have had losses at Leicester and are still sitting comfortably above them at the moment. We had an off day; we hopefully will be back to our best on Saturday and then ready for a tough, tough game next Tuesday. My first time sitting in the East Stand, should be a laugh!
On yesterday's performance would expect Evans to be dropped for the Peterboro match. Oli to play, with McKenna on the bench.
Oli should definitely start, but the other two can both go on the bench for me, we really don't need three defenders on the bench when we're starting with five defenders on the pitch.
Bench: Oxley, Dawson, Rosie, McKenna, Evans, McLean, Proschwitz ?? Pretty strong bench in my opinion.
Personally, I'd put Cooper on ahead of Dawson of we're playing 3-5-2, if we're not going to put Dawson on when we're switching to 4-4-2 and taking off Dudgeon, then when are we?
With regards to the bench, have they still not sorted Jakupovic's international clearance, or has Oxley beaten him to the number 2 jersey? I'd have: Jakupovic, Cooper, Rosenior, Fryatt (When fit), Evans, Proschwitz, Townsend.
A good win on saturday and i would say it has to be Bruce for M.O.T.M. imo As for the thread, getting into my car and putting CD on. Led Zepplins classics. Felt much better by Sheffield.
must be still sulking from last tuesday, you win some you lose some, you lost to us get over it son, we lost our next game thats football, you beat forrest, have an early night and try and forget about our game its gone
i liked bruces outburst.. i dont like managers who just spend 90 minutes leaning against the dugout even if thing are going pear shaped.. i know waving your arms about and kicking off probably doesnt achieve much, but at least it shows hes up for it and passionate for the cause..
How rank was Lesster's support? From the half-hearted 'poznan' to the future-diabetic with his drum, a truly lukewarm atmosphere. I was curious to attend Lesster's Gas Museum before the game, but like everything else t was closed. They must have some fascinating 'gas' exhibits in there.
Agreed. It really is a tacky atmosphere in there. All the drumming, doing the poznan and the single gayest thing in football, that "you're **** aahh" thing on goal kicks. Do they really enjoy doing that? Do they think one day it might make the keeper fall over or something?
