Sahin wasn't an attacking midfielder for Dortmund He played in the Banega-type position - Picking the ball up off the defence and playing it to the foward players with accuracy.. He played in the (2) of a 4-2-3-1. Kagawa is a second striker/ attacking midfielder.
He sat beside Kehl and dictated play. In a 4-2-3-1 both deep midfielders have some defensive duties but one is creative whilst the other purely holds - eg Khedira and Alonso. I would say Agger, Allen, Sahin and Glen Johnson (at either left or right back). Seriously. Oh and Lucas. But that's it.
I'd take Lucas for the first team, and Shelvey for the bench... Johnson (I think he's better than any of our right backs, despite not being that great himself) Reina two or three years ago would have... but I'd rather have a young keeper who makes mistakes (which is understandable) than an older one (who should be beyond that by now) Agger would play as many if not more games than Rio, if he was in our squad.... There isn't a first eleven in the country that is 100% complete, not even City with all their cash (hence they were after Agger) and could still do with one or two out and out wingers. We have gaps in our team mainly where we are waiting for youngsters to push through... In two or three years I'd like to think Rafael will have matured, Powell and Cleverley will have progressed, Welbeck (if he's still here) adds goals to his game.. And Smalling and Jones have further developed their partnership... They are a good match for each other in terms of defensive styles..
I think we could miss Lucas massively today, their's lots of pace in that United team and I see our midfield being bypassed more often than not. Overall though I'm happy with the team we've put out and it looks like Borini is in the center thankfully.
We will concede today, there is no doubts with that, miss Lucas terribly. Nice to see Suso on the bench, much deserved.

Lindegards kicking is shocking so I wonder if Liverpool have a plan to counter this. Could put us on the back foot many times. Hes also as prone to lacking control of his area as de gea but is so far behind in every other aspect I feel fergie has purposefully weakened us.
