This score first and sit back to wait for the equaliser or worse is fairly pissing me off now.

These are **** tactics and I'm going to get seriously hacked off watching this all season.

It's a tactic we have adopted for the last dozen games and the result is we haven't won a game in the EPL for some time.

This has got to change or the crowds will dwindle. It's self inflicted and totally avoidable and as you can tell I'm ****ing sick of it.

to be fair, macclean and sessegnon are not playing well, and with johnson injured that means we have no creative outlet.

if macclean had not been utter garbage today, we would have scored another goal at least i reckon.

While winning is a habit, so is losing. Yes, you were poor today however you have Wigan next. You will beat them regardless of tactics. AJ will change things for you.

**** tactis even Brucie had us playing better stuff

MoN is the man for us but we cannot just sit back and let them have attack after attack

I have heard people say that every1 is clueless and we have drawn 3 away against good clubs and have drawn Liverpool at home, they fail to point out that in 3 of those games we have taken the lead and not been able to hold onto it.

We've done well to have 4 points from the first 4 games as I think we have been poor in all of them

I think taking Seb off , was a huge mistake today.

Him and gardner are the only 2 who look like they can keep hold of the ball.

Credit to mcclean he looks like he always wants it, but so far this seaon hasn't done **** all with it.

His teams are never pretty to watch. I do think you'll improve in that respect when Johnson is fit and Sessegnon finds form. But he'll always be a cagey manager who plays percentages. He had some cracking footballers at Villa but they played a certain way. That said I think he made a mistake in the summer not finding a midfield player who can dictate a game.

It seems we have lost the ability to string passes together, some chances today and they wasted, we have lost our mojo of gusto or something.

Think rather than actual tactics Cest.
I think it is a lack of quality at holding up the ball in MF.
All of them in front of Catts were not at the races today.
The ball was either given away in good attacking positions or bounced off the receiver.
Then WH were launching it back at our defence none stop.
It then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and they start dropping deeper and deeper.
IMHO Gardner could be the answer when Bardsley is back.

West Ham United not doing badly under Fat Sam, happy with a point however its getting a bit frustrating taking the lead and then losing it.

Leaving ourselves open for dog walking jokes too I fear..........................

I have to say i totally agree with the original post and its been horrific to watch and i dont understand why we play like that. There is only the manager to blame as they are his tactics. Everyone slated bruce for having only a plan A and nowt else but we are in the same predicament with mon. I was all for getting marty in and after his girst 10 games in charge it seemed like a match made in heaven but we have now drawn 9 out of the last 12 and im not even going to mention the possesion % and no of shots we have compared to our opposition both home and away. I hope marty starts to change his tactis or ill be looking at getting sum double time in come satutdsy rather than watching us Defend for 60+ minutes everyweek.

God help us if fletcher gets crocked too!!

Mate...It's got bugger all to do with tactics when players look bloody incapable of passing to a bloke in the same colour shirt...These Prats earn thousands and cant pass?

    Effort...10 out of 10.
Skill...ZERO... apart from the goal and Migs save...We were tripe.

    With Cest 100% on this.

The way we play gifts the opposition a way back.

West Ham had nothing, but they had so many chances to punt it in that eventually one was going to drop.

It's ugly to watch, and it's ineffective, 13 without a win tells it's story.

Yes, key men in terms of holding the ball are off form, but the 10 behind the ball and hack the ball to the oppo to come again tactics are a ****ing shambles.

Now, if MON wasn't MON, there'd be more than a few murmurs, I'm happy to be the one to stick my neck out and say he needs to sort it, or be accountable and open to critique in the manner any other manager of a team 13 without a win would.

McLean is not worthy of a place right now, yet he gets 90mins again, and without Fletch, we'd have nil points

4 unbeaten does not mask 13 games without a win, I believe that equals Bruce worst run, and if we're open and hinest, we have been second best in all 4 games, by a distance in 3 of them.

    Seriously ****ing pissed off tonight.

It pains me to say it as I'm sure MON is the best manager around, but you are 100% correct

    Painfully true.

I thought Sessignon was one of the few players who wasn't giving away the ball regularly, so I was very surprised when he was taken off.

True enough, regardless of tactics you can still pass and receive a ball. You then have to look at coaching methods I suppose. Still unbeaten of course so something to build from. "As long as you do" I suppose will be the view of the fans.

I remember watching us under Fat Sam though (not suggesting O'Neill is that bad), but he basically had decent footballers not thinking about passing. Their heads were full of his percentage and defensive ****e. Was not surprised by the Nicky Butt quip about "what do we do when WE have the ball" after an hour listening how to stop the opposition. O'Neill likes to start quick, work hard and pick teams off on the counter. It can take a bit of watching but as the likes of Johnson/Sessegnon find fitness/form, he'll be hoping they can turn the point into three.

Sounds like the players are trying hard to meet the work ethic he demands and struggling to express themselves in the process. He may have to tweak that balance to get the results and keep fans interested.

We have not played well since the QPR game, so why ?, because we did not get players like Moses, Dempsey etc and players in this Sunderland team cannot go forward for some reason, we threw leads away in the 1990-91 season and went down, so 6 points hoyed away and knew WHU were going to eqallise. And people are saying beat Wigan but why ?. i can see where this season is heading, so i give them till October to change it around, i think i will go home at half time next week at the Wigan game, switching off for 4 games on the trot is unaceptable.

I would sign McFadden up to give McClean a boot up the arse, plus McFadden is a tidy little player.
