Not seen a good performance from this kid. He's a poor mans Guthrie...... Does anyone have anything positive to say about him because I can't see anything in his game to suggest that hes any better than some Sunday league players without the fitness.

Bit harsh... thought he did alright today, though he wasn't as impressive as Bigi and he is supposed to be more senior. Lets see how he uses the game time that the Europa affords him.

Guess he just keeps himself available. Wasn't a terrible performance from him tonight, but he was efficient in front of the defence. Put himself about, decent job tonight. Other than Bigirimana and Ameobi, no-one else really excelled.

From the little I seen of Mehdi Abied, Gosling isn't fit to carry Abied's bags to training.

Hes useless...... come on if your willing to accept that crap (from the team) and i might be wrong here but I do not recall a game we have won when he has played..... then jeez.

The performance was lacklustre at best..... If I was any of them players I would have been busting a gut to impress.

Not Gosling's biggest fan but got to say this article does seem a bit harsh. He did alright tonight.

I have time for Gosling but he does need to start showing some signs of visible improvment soon. I think some people also forget he's only 23 and has had a year or 2 out of football through injuries with us and Everton, and hasn't had an extended run in the team to impress. Having said that he has to improve vastly to be as good as some one like Cabaye.

So I see Gosling has joined Simpson and Obertan as whipping boy. How very predictable:emoticon-0114-dull:

It was a good team performance apart from the first 15-20 minutes. We made seven changes from the weekend and the average age of the team was probably only about 23. It was also 29/30 degrees out there, that shouldn't be forgotten. I was impressed with us on the whole, Shola put himself about well, Bigi was very good, Sammy looked sharp, Santon gets better with every game, Elliott was also solid. Obertan and Williamson are the only negatives, both clearly not good enough for us.

I actually rate Simpson... Obertron on the other hand can't supply an end product to save himself.

Can I remind you that other than Taylor & Santon we had our reserve team on the field tonight and not our senior team. Many of whom were making their first ever appearance in a European competition.

I mean come on, it was a clean sheet on a **** pitch, we hit the woodwork three times and were playing in conditions there we're not used to. Maritimo play in that temperature & humidity every game for Christ sake.

I suppose all we had to do was rock up and they'd just roll over and allow us to stroll the ball into the net as we are Newcastle United? It's been a long time since we made any waves with regards to European results, so just tone down the arrogance level and accept it. We played a virtual second string team and didn't lose so it ain't all bad.

Not sure about poor mans Guthrie, only similarity is they're both English cm's. Suppose Guthrie is a poor mans Gerrard and so forth. Agree he's crap though.

I really can't see what Gosling adds to the team, the only strength of his I can work out is "he gets forward well".

I don't like being negative about players, but I really struggle with gosling.

Personally i must have watched a different game to most on here. I think at times favourites get good remarks while if your face isnt in you get ignored. I thought Gosling (for a change i admit) played really well, made a lot of interceptions in midfield and nearly scored. Probably top man for me. Bigi was also great but thought Gosling edged it. Not many others impressed that much apart from Elliot who had an excellent game to silence the critics.

I dont have favourites. I like players who try hard (This I give to Gosling he does try) and also have technical quaility and ability. This is where Gosling lacks.

I have a similar sort of feeling for Obertan, Vukic and Willimson. They just lack any quaility.

Our best player last night was probably Elliott for the saves he made (error at the end not included) the rest where average.

I hope that Tiote is back for Sunday. I doubt he will be.

Not convinced at all. He can disappear for half an hour at a time. Quite an impressive ability in central midfield. Can't understand why Abeid is suffering a lack of opportunity for him. I've been really impressed by Abeid.
