Suppose we just gotta be happy with a point - My thoughts on the game tonight

Well, it was frustrating, but it could have been a lot worse. We were so unlucky not to score, and we were definitely the better side, but they had their chances.

Some good performances, some disappointing. At least it's an away point to take back to our home tie against them.

Ratings -

Elliot - 8 - Kept us in the game with some good saves and bits of play. Impressive performance.

Perch - 6 - Shakey first 15 mins, but after, did quite well. Nothing great though.

Willo - 5.5 - Very poor start, average for the rest of the first half. Did decent 2nd half though.

Saylor - 7 - A crucial and excellent challenge early on from Willo's mistake saved us. Some great defending. Solid enough.

Santon - 7 - Pretty much solid defensively, good attacking. Threatened them.

Bigi - 8 - Excellent. Some great break up of play, good distribution, another promising performance from a gem. MOTM.

Gosling - 4 - Well, poor first half. Did a decent job 2nd half defensively. Nothing special at all from this lad.

Obertan - 5 - Some fantastic runs, but poor final product.

Vuckic - 3 - Nothing of quality really.

Amalfitano - 4.5 - Disappointing, couldn't really get into the game in attack. Some good tracking back and some decent defending though.

Shola - 7 - Good performance. Unlucky not to score. Some good knock downs, deserved a goal.

Sammy - 6 - Look good when he came on. Some **** touches at times, but some threatening play also.

Overall - Not much to say. We should have won, but It could have been worse. Decent result.

 

Bit harsh on Gosling. He hit the post and a lot of his work goes unseen

 

If we look at this list of players though, Only two would be in our best XI. The rest are subs or squad players, so it's a fair result given that we were up against their first team.

 

Hitting the post shouldn't get you any credit if you performed ****. Most people would be tempted to give Gosling a 1 tonight, but I thought he did some decent defending 2nd half, but nothing more than a 4 for me.

 

Wish we had the players to give Europe a better go, but we don't. So i won't dwell on it.

Bit of a dodgy save at the end by Elliot, which made me nervous.

I now hate Obertan even more, just seems angry and his body language gave the wrong impression for me.

Marveaux is class, and Bigiramana is fast becoming one of my favourite players!

We should be winning these games, but nevertheless a point is better than a loss.
Which it could well of been if not for Santon.

I expect us to give them a whoopin at SJP.

 

Awful apart from Shola, Bigi and the dilsh, there should be minus numbers for Sammy.

 

The lack of investment by Ashley is really starting to show its ugly head now. We should be investing several million pounds into a few players rather than spread it around championship level transfers. Bigi, Gosling, Obertan and co wouldn't look decent playing for a mid-table league one team.

The terrible start to the season continues.

 

I thought Bigi looked ****e.... Our best player tonight was Santon.

 

All about opinions but I thought he did very well! Breaking up play and picking passes. Santon on the other hand, I didn't see him find one teammate with a cross or ball in any sort of dangerous situation today, always does immensely down the line then wastes it when he gets there, very poor showing imo.

 

The worrying thing is, we've not looked decent in ANY game we have played so far this season. I watched serval pre-season games and put it down to rust and Pardew never picking a full team. We got VERY lucky against spurs and Villa should have battered us.

Wouldn't say that, Spurs only scored from an offside goal, Villa were probably better than us I'll give you that. I think we've made a big mistake not strengthening this summer. I'm pissed off at our poo-poo attitude to the cups as I can't see us in the top 7 this year regardless.

 

Elliot - 8 - Some good saves, I didn't think he was capable of.

Perch - 6 - Not poor but has played better.

Willo - 5 - If Willo is average that would make Andy O'brien exceptional.

Saylor - 6 - Decent enough but needs a bit more match practice.

Santon - 7 - Good at the back, threatened and made a goal line clearance.

Bigi - 8 - Passing and tackling and energy was glowing today (his second MOTM of the season)

Gosling - 4 - A decent shot that hit the post but apart from that he showed he isn't really quite good enough... Clarence Acuna was much better.

Obertan - 5 - He has pace, I don't think he's good enough to be a squad player though.

Vuckic - 5 - Nothing of quality really.

Amalfitano - 5 - I want much better from him next time.

Shola - 6 - Not bad, a little sharper and he'd of scored a goal.

Sammy - 6 - Just back from long term injury which explains why had the touch of Joseph Fritzl.

Overall - Many of our squad players showed they need replacing.

 

Hehe lol come on! We all know Ba's winner against spurs was a cross to Cisse lol he's just not got that kind of finish in his locker! I have to agree about the poo-poo attitude though. We worked so hard to get into the Europa league and the club are doing everything they can to get knocked out of it.

 

I watched him play for Cov a few times last season, the step up is too much for him.

 

Obviously haven't see him play this year, this guy just looks class. Also isn't he only 18.

 

Weak on the ball, bad passer and an awful touch. I guess we have different ideas of what a class player is.

 

Yes, your talking about a different player or getting him confused with someone else.
