Table topping, undefeated, best start ever, Gills (P7 W6 D1 L0) travel up to Second place, spanking all who come before them, Port Vale (P7 W5 D1 L1). Vale go in to the game on a crest of a wave having won their last 3 league games, very impressively, beating league favourites Rotherham by 6-2 at home and then Plymouth 1-3 away and also much fancied Fleetwood 2-5 away. This match will see the leagues 2 top goal scorers in Pope (8) and Kedwell (7). Both teams also have very healthy goal differences with Gills +11 (F15 A4) and Vale +10 (F21 A11). Port Vales only defeat, so far, this season came away to Accrington Stanley on 21st August when they were beat 2-0. Vale have also only kept 1 clean sheet in the league which came during their opening day defeat of Barnet by 3-0. Mickey Adams, who was "linked" with the vacant managers position at Priestfield over the summer, is working absolute miracles at Vale, who were placed into administration back in March, and dispite the restrictions placed upon the team he has managed together them playing good, attacking football which has, as previously noted, seen them recently dispatch two of the bookies favourites, in Rotherham and Fleetwood town, smashing 6 and 5 past their opponents respectively. This match will be an extremely difficult one and another which will go a long way to see how we will fair come the end of the season. During our recent match against Southend we picked up a couple of injuries and a suspension so there will be changes to the starting line up. But I am hopeful that we'll be able to get something out of this game as we have depth and the players will be used to not playing with the same starting 11 for 2 games in a row. Mmmmmmmm very tough one. Vale have not been good at keeping a clean sheet but are a strong attacking side. I anticipate Gills first defeat here.......but going with an optimistic Vale 0 Gills 0. Go go Gills.
I think this game is going to be really tricky to predict as it is between the top two, but I think it will be Port Vale 0 v Gills 1 (Kedwell)

That thumping you're boys gave Rotherham was probably celebrated as much by Gills fans as by Vale cos we really don't like Evans.
