Don't want to be too quick to judge, but Borini doesn't look the answer. Hope we're not desperate in January and force the club to do another Morientes. Utter madness to let carroll go in these circumstances, and calling Andy back apart, you get shight in January, damaged goods of pay over the odds. Look at Torres and carroll, for instance.

Borini is raw but I do see potential. Against Sunderland, it was his first start as a centre forward and I think he was decent (had a couple of chances, good movement in the box).

Whilst I understand that the owners are reluctant to splash out on older players, I think our forward line needs some experience. Suarez is a 25 which is still relatively young and a bit of a hot head. What we need is an experienced CF with a cool head. Apparently we're looking at Llorente and Jan Huntelaar - both are nearing the end of their respective contracts so wouldn't cost too much in terms of initial fee but I suppose they would command high wages.

Cannot see us recalling Carroll unless BR loses faith in his system which I doubt. No point bringing him in back when we have the opportunity to bring some other strikers IMO.

I agree that we need a cool headed experienced striker in January to fill the void, but who's out there? We could get robbed on a player that may take 7-10 games to settle if he was from overseas like Llorente. I'm 100% convinced there was a lack of communication on the owners part with regards Liverpool letting Andy Carroll go. It was all last minute stuff and sloppiness on Liverpools part.

Letting Andy Carroll go, and signing 2 new strikers should have been done a lot earlier, signings nowadays can be finalised within 24 hours.

I think Borini will do a job but he's hardly going to turn into some superstar striker, just don't see it, will just be a reliable backup if anything. Still really need a proper number 9

So 18 'poor' months has Torres dropping in value from £50m to £20m, yet 18 'poor' months onyl has Carroll dropping from £35m to £20m? Not sure that adds up.

There were alot of Liverpool fans got very pissy when Newcastle fans were talking about not being willing to pay more than £15m for Carroll.

Andy Carroll is 23 years old and is 6 years short of his prime. Fernando Torres is a couple of months short of his 29th birthday and has lost half a yard of pace and also has lost some of his acceleration, the thing that made him the player he is.

When used correctly Andy Carroll is a beast, and can cure defenders constipation. Although we can't tell Chelsea how much to sell Torres for, not in a million years will they get close to £50 million for Torres. They may in my estimation get 1/3 of it if they are lucky.

That is why Liverpool told Pardew to go **** himself when Newcastle refused to offer more than £15 million for Andy Carroll. No club even Manchester United have a right to tell clubs how much to sell their players for.

Gerrez, the thread is about whether you'd accept a player that is now at another club, you can see the irony in your comment right? Its pretty much impossible in football to stick to your own club, else we'd have a pretty boring fixture list/ season.

Its right that Liverpool "told Pardew to go **** himself" but its seems farfetched to think Abramovich wouldn't do the same thing to Liverpool if they offered less than £30m or so for Torres. He'd probably save more face by having play in the Chelski reserves.

Just one of a number of nothing football stories in the past couple of days - they have been scrapping the barrel.

You nearly did it freakoid. You commented on a thread about a Liverpool player who had been transferred to Chelsea and, according to some journalist, could have moved back to Liverpool. You got so close to just making an angry and bitter comment about your own club but then at the last second you had to find a way to bring your disturbing Manchester United fixation into it. You really do need to seek help.

There are reports that Ba's clause may not have expired yet. £7.5m for Ba seems reasonable but then would probably go off for the African Cup of Nations which starts on the 19th.

    £6m for Hunterlaar
    £10m+ for Llorente
    £7m for Ba

There are some decent buys to be had in January ...

  11. As someone rightly pointed out above, Carroll is a lot younger and was clearly showing signs of improvement for both club and country. Torres is a 29 year old has been who as showed little sign of getting back to his old ways.

Hell, two sets of fans can rarely agree on a price for one player, let alone two!

Stick to you your club and we'll stick to ours was regarding valuations <doh>

  12. The problem with Ba is his knee. Reports say that he is unable to pass a medical and that he is not insured as a result. This is fine for Newcastle as they got him on a free transfer. However, I am not convinced a club would be willing to pay out for a player they could lose at any time without the back up of compensation <ok>

So says the nomad, permanently camped on the Liverpool board - can you not see the irony here? I bet you spend all day on this board, just waiting for someone to mention MU so you can come blundering in with your size 14's on!

Wouldn't Huntelaar be the best value for money? Anything under say £14 million would be a bargain, as he's been there, seen it and done it. He's also only a few months older than £24 million RVP and has a better fitness record too.

  16. I'd say Llorente, at 27 years old he is younger than Huntelaar so we could get a couple more seasons out of him. Also more likely to have a resale value should we come to sell him for whatever reason <ok>
