    How was Essien last night?

Was on a pub crawl and only managed to see the goals (very luckily actually).

I'd rather have their strikers, TBH. <ok>

  4. I used to rate Essien very highly to the point that when the inevitable Gerrard vs Lampard debates popped up I often threw Essien's name into the hat. However, he has suffered with injuries and I don't think he is the player he once was. Clearly, Kaka is not as good as he was at Milan either. I'm not a big fan of Modric although I appreciate what he does. Although I think Khedira is a good player I am not totally convinced by him either.

So, out of that list, the only two I would like to see at Liverpool is Alonso and Ozil <ok>

It's a good group of players/individuals - I know it's early but their start to the season has been poor and it shows that talented players alone will not achieve success. There needs to be a team spirit where everyone is fighting together.

Relating this back to LFC, I can't see the same spirit we once had since Rafa's days and the end of Kenny's first season where confidence was high because we were winning games and scoring goals.

I'd have Yaya Toure over any of them, he is an absolute monster.

We definately need that type of player. A real physical presence who can sprint 50 yards to win the ball, flying tackles, fierce shots - all action hero. These players are the one's that get the crowd going when the chips are down. Gerrard was this man but he's a shadow of his former self so we need a new one. Sissoko was a good example before his eye injury.

  8. Mascherano was good at it too. Although the accuracy of his powerful shooting was somewhat questionable <ok>

Best midfielder in the Premier League. Maybe by a distance.

He can even do as decent a job as a defensive mid as an attacking mid.

Must admit when city first signed Yaya I thought he was overpriced and didn't rate him at, but the man is a colossus. Agree, best m/f in the prem.

Yaya is getting on a bit. I would have Lucas over him.

Crap player is Scholes, he should be counting his medals, not making crap passes. :)

I thought Essien had an average game at best.

Essien is massively overrated, most his passes were 5 yard touches to Alonso who controled the midfield; Xabi did more defensive work also.
    Khedira is ok.
    Kaka is cack now.

When they had Alonso, Modric and Ozil playing for the last 10 minutes though...wouldn't mind!

  16. I'd agree with that hence me saying the only two I'd take for Liverpool is Alonso and Ozil, I'm not that keen on Modric and I'd rather play Lucas, Gerrard or Allen <ok>

Alonso is really the driving force of that Real team, without him they play poorly. They play poorly now, because Mourinho just basically FM'd and bought a bunch of midfielders, overcrowding the position and forcing Kaka/Sahin out.

Ozil plays in front of Xabi, who utilises the space around him to basically boss the pitch. However, Modric crowds him out and often they end up wasting possession by just battling for the ball. In the end though, Xabi is the monster that we all know and he eventually gets the play started.

Essien just passes to Xabi, Modric just passes to Xabi, Ozil passes to Xabi, Xabi passes to Khedira or Ronaldo or Di Maria and they go on and score.
