I think United have done as much as they can given the point that its easy to upset fans of either persuasion with a comment after it gets dissected and then quoted out of context. They have been very direct with their fans were the chanting is concerned and while I have a small issue with the MUST statement, I think there is enough good intent there to hope for a respectful day on Sunday and going forward. Must say have been impressed with the United fans who have responded on forums etc. and am hoping that despite the fact there will still be the silly arguments around who said what first, you called me this, I didn't say that etc. in the short term, in the long term I am more hopeful of the vile chants from both sets of supporters ceasing, they are only a substitute for a lack of Wit anyway. My real Ire is reserved for the FA and the authorities who were in charge at Hillsborough. Read this in the comments section of a MEN article regarding United trying to stop the chanting. Made me quite annoyed but thanks to the United fan that posted: NB. wasn't sure if we can repost articles that may be copy write but asterisked the posters names out anyhow. ************ posted: 18/09/12 at 10:06 Registered: 17/05/2008 Reply Like (24) Report This February 1989, me and my mate were amongst 18,000 United fans who travelled to Hillsborough in the snow to see a 2-0 win. Halfway through the game, countless numbers of us climbed over several metal fences to escape the crush occurring in the middle of the Leppings Lane End. One month later, I was at Old Trafford to see Nottingham Forest knock United out of the Cup. Had we won the game, we would ...have faced Liverpool, back at Hillsborough on that fateful day, 15th April 1989. Ends likely to be decided by the toss of a coin or on the whims of the FA. There but for the grace of God... Whatever your opinions, regardless of the colours you wear, if you've regularly paid to get in football grounds over the years, you've all shared similar experiences. The only difference is the team you follow... To fellow United fans lucky enough to have a ticket for Anfield next weekend, remember the above. For a minute, consider if the events of the last 23 years had happened to our club. Do us proud by ending the mindless and evil chants. Justice for the 96... ************ posted: 18/09/12 at 10:25 Registered: 28/11/2007 Like (2) Report This I remember that game well. Fortunately we had seats at the top of Leppings Lane that day but I remember even at 18 years old being both worried and excited in equal measures. There but for the grace of God indeed. ************ posted: 18/09/12 at 10:36 Registered: 05/11/2008 Like (1) Report This Same in 77 v Leeds spent two hours suspended off the ground in the central pen. If the gates had been opened that day??!! I think there's a theme here of the same ground and overcrowding. Sheffield Council health and safety would decide on capacity and also emergency evacuation procedure for the police and ambulance services. I hope they have got deep pockets. ************ posted: 18/09/12 at 10:47 Registered: 22/05/2009 Like (0) Report This Great comment ********
Cracking comments them and here's to hoping United AND Liverpool fans do the families of those victims a proud service and let the game be what it should be. We can all tolerate the abuse towards Evra and Suarez and chants about Giggs claiming the family man of the year award. but let's not let the emotions boil overto hatred at the cost of those poor families eh?!
You're 100% right. I think we can tolerate when opposing fans taunting opposing players. So on this occasion, calling Wayne Rooney a fat granny shagger and that he only shags whores will be acceptable. Also mentioning Ryan Giggs' extramarital affairs with his sister in law and a no talent slut with huge tits called Imogen will be acceptable from Liverpool fans. On the other side, singing ''The baby's not yours'' at Steven Gerrard'' and ''He kisses the badge on his chest, and hands in a transfer request'' and the ''Sign on, Sign on'' song will be tolerated. It should be limited to taunting players, they can take it, as they earn enough.
I do agree, but I can't help but feel there will be booing by utd fans initially and then chants, followed by chants from the liverpool crowd. It is just inevitably going to happen. Maybe its a good thing people are concentrating on the handshake fiasco. I hope that many camera are pointed at all the crowd, so that some bans can be put in place.
At some point in your life you have to take the chance and give others the benefit of the doubt. Nobody knows who will chant what on Sunday. We have to hope that they can be as respectful as the Newcastle fans were on Monday Night. If they are then all is well. If theyare not then the best idea that I've seen forwarded is frank's - greet it with stoney silence.
That doesn't sound like a catchy chant. "RyanGiggshadextramaritalaffairseithhissisterinlawandanotalentslutwithhugetitscalledImogen". Were both of her huge tits called Imogen?
They could sing something like this. He shags to the left He shags to the right. Old Ryan Giggs He cheats on his wife.
That's much better. Why any football fan would get offended by a chant about one of their players shagging around is beyond me. Support the club not the player.
Stuff like that should be sang instead of stuff about tragedies. How about this. This was sang at Darren Ferguson by Leeds fans. Your dads a **** and so are you Your dads a **** and so are you. Or this. 10 men went to lift...went to lift Frank Lampard 10 men went to lift...went to lift Frank Lampard 10 men and their fork-lift truck went to lift..went to lift Frank Lampard 10 men and their fork-lift truck..couldn't lift Frank Lampard. (Thats to the tune of the Mow a meadow song sang by Chelsea fans)
Stuff like that on Sunday is acceptable. Even the ''Feed the scousers'' and the ''Sign on, Sign on'' and the ''We hate Scousers and City of course'' stuff. Thats trivial and minor. On Liverpools side, the ''Evra song'' Liverpool fans sing, plus the ''We're not racists, we only hate Mancs'' can be deemed as been minor and trivial. I would even go to saying Gary Neville is inbred may be acceptable.
Who made you the chant police? Seriously, I suspect your experience of actually being at Anfield is very limited so how come you are suddenly the authority on what is and is not acceptable? You're a bit of a loon SKD!
I'm not suggesting any such thing. Compare what I've mentioned to tragedy mocking and its really trivial and minor and can be deemed to be acceptable. So think logically, which is acceptable, player taunting rather than tragedy mocking? Players being taunted will let it in one ear and out the other ear, they are paid enough to get thrown abuse at them. I doubt it if Wayne Rooney ever cares that 42500 Liverpool fans call him a ''fat granny shagging bastard''.
