all major cities have their bad parts. With these programmes you only see what the tv producers want you to. We wouldn't watch them if they didn't film people acting like that, sadly. Only an idiot would tar the whole of a city with the same brush after watching that.
I went around Lincoln Road in Peterborough and my wife insisted on locking the car doors. Stamford was the other end of a surpise, I have been there before to the George Inn but everywhere looked very pleasant. Maybe I am more of a Stamford man type than Lincoln Road. By the way I come from and stay on NHE when I come home. I do tend to have to work in very rough areas and yes they are everywhere, but it was one of those build me up shoot me down nights. Hull is no worse than any other industrial city in Europe never mind England, but that still does not make it nice to see on the box.
Fez I will miss Peterborough but do hope to met you before the year end mate. And I thought your thread was just ok, but do agree that it was political and could have let the numpties start up. So yes you was right and so was DMD. fence sitter or what!!!!
I appreciate your timely response, but you confuse me. As many have said, the so-called 'local content' is nothing more than the venue, not the depressing subject matter; as that is almost certainly universal. Anyone who makes a judgment on Hull, Blackpool or Tameside, simply on the back of one of these programmes or the action of a murderer, really loses any credibility in sensible discussion. No mention was made of religion in the closed thread, nor was it political; it was current and topical and the points were Apolitical - I have no religion, nor do I exercise any political preference (in fact I have stronger views about football), but I do have social views and a social conscience. I saw no evidence of personal abuse, just one post which was easily ignored or laughed at, the same as the daft one about Blackpool on here. If it had descended to the vitriol of religion or politics then I would understand your intervention, but, as you say, it had not, so censorship for what someone might say seems a tad pre-emptive and over-bearing. Many O/T subjects run their course when there are ample other sites for them, football is a huge part of our society and these were social questions, nothing more.
Once as kid my brother's mate's dad came round and he worked at Queen's Gardens and was openly bragging how a lot of people 'fell down the stairs' on their way to the cells...... I don't doubt the copppers at Priory Rd are on their best behaviour for the cameras, and must feel like smashing **** out of some of their 'visitors'. I'm sure one or two still do 'fall down the stairs'.......
There's a swear filter. If you or anyone doesn't want to see the word ****, turn the swear filter on. Also, I think Ricardo might actually have been born in 1984 yes.
I don't think Fez is bothered about the swearing, he's disappointed that a thread was closed and is questioning what should and shouldn't be acceptable on here.
pisses me off when repeat offenders go in, and are all on 1st name terms with the coppers etc and all have a good laugh together.. oh, caught robbing somebodies elses car have you , what ya like you little bugger, have a night in the cell and wel see you again next month...want jam on your toast again? everything that is wrong with this country, should be beating **** out the little scumbags
Spot on, thanks! I am not offended by what I read, just disappointed that censorship is made for what someone might say - it seems a tad hypocritical and stifles discussion. Something like the broadbrush criticism of football supporters, in the aftermath of Hillsboro, would not have grown the ugly legs it did had boards such as this existed and public opinion had a means of being heard - that opinion would have been Apolitical and definitely not religious. No criticism intended, to lean toward caution is understandableand commendable, it will sometimes fall short and will always walk a line of differing opinions - that's life. The events in Tameside shocked and infuriated me; just as the Afghanistan Para-Olympic factory is!
Was this at night or something Mel? Im down Lincoln Rd most weekends for stuff for my marine fish tank, and sure, theres a vibrant multi ethnic mix but never seen any trouble down there. I know a night out in PBoro can be like any major city, but surprised you mention Lincoln Rd is all. I used to go out in Stamford a lot when I was at Cottesmore, and seen as much trouble there in the evenings too. It's like a national blight. Stamford is a pretty little town though.
