Yes, I'm sure Tim would love to be a #2 and keep the bench warm.

He's a better keeper than Valdes so I think it's most unlikely that he'd go to Barca to warm the bench. He's happy here and probably wouldn't want to leave anyway.

Krul summer: Barcelona eye up Newcastle keeper as Valdes' new No.2.

The Spanish giants will be shopping for a back-up at the end of the season - but will the Toon's Dutch stopper be willing to warm their bench?

Newcastle's Tim Krul is a target for Spanish giants Barcelona.

Dutchman Krul has emerged as one of the best keepers in the Premier League and Barca want long-term competition for, and back-up to, first-choice Victor Valdes.

The Spanish giants' current reserve keeper, Jose Pinto, is 36 years old and is set to leave the Nou Camp when his deal expires next summer.

Coach Tito Vilanova has ordered his scouts to find him a top class replacement and Krul has received favourable reports.

    David Ramos

The 24-year-old, currently out with an elbow injury, has also been a target for Spurs in the past and has broken into the Dutch national squad.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew insists he does not want to sell his big players though, while Krul may not fancy having to go from being a Premier League No1 to being a back-up - even at Barcelona.

I know the bloke who wrote this so I asked him. He says there is interest from Barcelona, but that no-one's spoken to Krul about it. Much ado about nothing so far.

Why write about it then, I wonder...?

I could see it working if Krul was promised first team next season and given a substantial pay rise, but I just don't see Barca being that interested although there's a lot of crap around in the Premier League in the GK department, so if they did look to England, Tim probably looks like a god.

Reina, Friedal (nowadays), Al Habsi, De Gea, Rob Green etc etc are ****. I don't know why the pundits love the former.

Oh well, nice to see you on here Sid. <ok>

These journos all have a network and they love this sort of thing because every now and again they get proven right and they can crow about it. There's usually nowt in the story, but there you go. You can't have a good keeper these days without someone sniffing around. I am pretty sure Krul (and probably Mig) will have suitors soon. As JPF says: look at the competition.

Simple fact is Tim is a number 1 in the best league in the world (Screw you La liga). Yes there would be a possibility about becoming Barca's number one, but Barca only really favour players who come from La Masia. Hence why players like Affellay and Ibrahimovic failed
