The ball was clearly over the line. What I don't understand is why some other Newcsastle fans are saying otherwise?

Are they not permitted to say "Phew! We got off lucky then!" or do they somehow believe that it's impossible to score against the Mighty Back Four?

When that happened I wasn't sure if it went in or not. The referee is going to have an impossible job in making that decision, to be honest. The linesman has to be on the line to tell if the ball went in or not and if there was a bit of a body in the way, then his task is impossible.

It was the same with the disallowed goal. That was clearly onside but, again, it would be nearly impossible for someone to call right. The defender was leaning forward and the attacker appeared then to be behind the defender's body. However, photographs have shown that in lunging forward and giving the appearance of an offisde situation there is a foot left behind from the defender.

Now, any linesman who has time to watch play, the ball being kicked, the movement of the players and see can determine whether the player is onside or not is truly remarkable. It wasn't a poor decision; it was a near impossibile decision to make and I do sympathise with the linesman for getting that wrong.

Again, the ball hits the net and the fourth official, instead of faffing about with being a schoolyard prefect keeping managers in their boxes should be looking at this on the screen and saying to the ref, "You know, that was a good goal".

Why any Newcastle fan can't say any of this and admit that these were two perfectly legitimate goals really amazes me.

Considering ALL of the ball must cross ALL of the line, and unless the ball is really oval shaped then part of the ball is hidden by the post, I would say it's very in the balance, far from clear.

Then again, you sound like the most condescending of ****s so I doubt anyone gives a **** what you think anyway.

I think the situation is as follows.

From many angles the ball looks like it is in the net. From one angle it looks like only 90% of the ball is in the net. If that angle is the correct one, then by the strict letter of the law it was not a goal.

Even if it is the case that only 90% of the ball was in the net though, it sure looked like a goal. Nine times out of ten it would be given as a goal. We certainly couldn't have complained if it had been given. We would be annoyed as **** if we were on the flip side of the argument.

We are therefore extremely lucky, even if it is just possible that the call may technically have been correct.

Spot on. But it's marginal no matter which way you look at it.
not as proud as you must have been after putting that much effort into a post having a go at a club who's board you were on <laugh> <doh>

"it's probably one of the very few cases where goalline technology might struggle
........"Specksavers for you mate! ball well over line! and as for goal line technology having problems with this decision..i do not think so!...............either there will be several small cameras in line with posts covering all angles...or there will be a marker strip on ball and detectors along the goal line......simples!

Read the context of my message, and my previous messages. I have been suffering NUFC since the early 70s even through the Rather Interesting Charlton era. The point of my post is that fans who don't accept that their team were lucky, no matter whom they follow, and refuse to admit that luck bailed them out are as clearly deluded as my handle.

I didn't have a go at 'the club', I just had a go at those who constantly refuse to say "Gosh, we were lucky there, if the ref had been awake then they would have a goal/penalty/man advantage/delete as appropriate."

Yes, every club has them and not just this one.

Steven Taylors trailing left leg played Fellaini on side. I think all the ball was over the line and Everton were unlucky on both counts.
But on the plus side in the second half we came out and got a well derserved draw.

What you arguing with each other for?

Forget about the goal that never was, that entire match was full of bad decisions, Fellaini could have snapped an opponents ankle, Neville should have seen red also. There was a blatent hand ball that has been ignored in the box, Fellaini was pushed and shoved around in the penalty area every time he was in there. There were free kicks given that weren't free kicks and the ref had a nightmare with the Newcastle break away, which he pulled back.

The referee wasn't fit to officiate this game, I wouldn't at all be surprised if he is suspended from officiating Premier League games after this one.

Everton bossed Newcastle in the first half, Newcastle were out of shape and out of their depth, but in the 2nd half, Pardew evened up things with his substitution and for most of the second half, Newcastle gave Everton the run around. One thing is certain, Jagielka needs to be eating humble pie right now, his "Massively over achieved" comments were unnecessary, and Yohan Cabaye took exception obviously, he was the stand out player in this game for me, totally head and shoulders above everyone in both midfields once he got going.

    Many thanks Terry.

Always useful to have the opinions of a knowledgeable observer who bears us no malice but who also doesn't see life through black and white specs. I think that we spend so effort trying to put aside our bias sometimes that it is difficult to see straight

You can have as many cameras as you like.If the ball is 99.9% over the line no technology will be sufficiently accurate to tell. It's an inexact science. Not as inexact as a linesman I agree but I bet that within a year of the introduction of goal line technology a case will occur where it's found wanting.Monday night though 95% over the line.

Honest and l would say pretty accurate Lady E, we deserved a draw for our performance second half. The one point is important, but not as important as the good old fashioned kick up the arse l hope this gave our team.
This was a vitally important game from the perspective of finding some confidence and form. I really do expect us to push on from here.

Couldn't agree more. If we'd gone through the second half with a whimper we would have 4 points from 4 games, be wondering when we got so we couldn't even compete with teams like Everton and would have a confdence level of zero. As it is we have 5 points from 5 games, Ba is on fire, Cabaye almost up to speed, HBA and Cisse s amll notch off.

We know we can play well when understrength. We know week by week we'll be getting stronger, both with players coming back and others working their way into form. Sunday is Norwich at home, hopefuly with Tiote back in the centre of the park. Pick up three points there and suddenly we'll be just a couple of points off European places.

The season started in Merseyside at half time

Spot on LE!!! We definatley deserved a point on our 2nd half showing.

Everton did get unlucky with the 2 desicions, still not 100% convinced the ball crossed the line but like I said we rode our luck and had some desicions go our way. Im sure it will even it self out over the course of the season.
