Ipswich were going to sign Tatey until the injuries. Don`t know how much truth there is in this story because he has said he`s going to fight for a place here.

He had a good game Saturday despite the doubters, apart from keeping turning away from the attackers and running back with them!!

    Anyway, have a read:

".....apart from keeping turning away from the attackers and running back with them!! "

A pretty fundamental flaw in a defender don't you think? Only very few would say that Tate is up to this level because he's consistently demonstrated that he isn't. Last season he wasn't great (though in fairness missed a lot of it through injury) but I'd concede he wasn't as bad as Monk. He had a decent game Saturday but was guilty yet again of giving the ball away and doing what you describe above. Having said that he looked like a world-beater next to Williams that's for sure.

More than capable of doing a job in the Championship though I'm glad we've got him as cover at the moment.

Thing is, the article quotes Jewell as saying they were going to buy him. If that was the case, it would have happened while the transfer window was open, which was before we had injury problems so how can they say the deal fell through because of our injury problems?
I think they've taken Jewell's comments, looked around for a player somewhere in the league who's covering injuries and came up with Tate without looking into it properly

What a load of rubbish, Tate was going nowhere as he has just bought a £350k house in Ponty, if he was going why the hell would he buy a house here?

As a rental investment. Or maybe in bought now while prices are low because he has plans to live there at the end of his footballing career. Lots of players buy houses and then move to another area. And so do non-footballers. Houses are usually a good investment.

Thought Tate was good on Saturday, had a better game than Williams.

I agree monty - but if you look at how many times he gave the ball away and backed off attackers...<doh>

A top four team would have ripped us a new one.

Tate is not a long term solution, but I think he's decent enough cover. It's not like he gifted them a goal or got sent off. I thought it was a bit of a flash back to last season on Saturday. Just looked unable to produce much quality in the final 3rd against a well organised team.

yes he is just like he did from League 2 to Div 1 to Championship and now the premiership. You have to give him credit, He might not be the best player but he certainly gives 110% when he plays......legend..

Giving 110% isn't enough if you're not up to this level, and he's not. I'm delighted that he had a good game overall but let's be honest he was marginally the better of two poor CB displays on Saturday. Gave the ball away on at least three occasions and backed away from attackers (an irritating trait that's fatal at this level).

Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's covering for us but there's a reason he's third choice. The 'doubters' aren't doubting because we've anything against Tatey (quite the opposite, actually) but he's proven that he switches off during games - usually repeatedly - and if you do that in the Prem you'll pay the price.

Say what you like about Tate, but he's handy cover for anywhere along the back four, and will always put his body on the line. He may not be up to this level, but he's all we've got for the moment

You're not wrong there. For all his faults I'd rather have an experienced guy at CB than someone from the U21's.

If he can be made MOM by a number of papers for saturdays game and the manager is full of praise and admiration for tatey then he must be good enough and i can see him playing a big part this season, He dont get the praise he deserves sometimes from some fans who only see the goal scorers as good enough and worthy of praise.

" i can see him playing a big part this season"

Only if Chico and Bartley are incapacitated for a long time. You do realise he's third choice?

Who says he is third choice??? I have not heard ML say that, As far as i can see there is no First, second or third choice with any position, They are squad members and all will play at some point...

Every manager knows his usual starting 11.

Chico is clearly number one but he's suspended. Bartley is number two and was bought specifically as back up for Chico/ Williams. He played in the Cup game. Tate is only playing because Bartley has a thigh injury. If your take is different I'd be interested to hear it. Really.

Monk would play ahead of Tate , IMO , if he was healthy . Getting rid of Tate ain't going to happen because he'll never be shown the door & of all the people who have said " they have to drag me kicking & screaming " , Tate would actually do it . P.S. One thing Tate brings when we play a certain type of team , is the ability to move the ball up field with a few fake passes here & there & then make a killer pass as he begins to get closed down .
