After a nights sleep, my thoughts are its time for some changes for next weekend in an attempt to improve our play. McClean and Sessegnon have been poor in all 3 league games so far and maybe its time to show them they are not guaranteed a place. Assuming everyone is fit, this would be my team. Mignolet Bardsley, O'Shea, Cuellar, Rose Cattermole Larsson, Gardener, Colback, Johnson Fletcher Westwood, Brown, McClean, Sess, Saha, Vaughan, Meyler
Decent mate but, I would look at some pace up top so would play Campbell and Fletcher together. That will mean a hard decision for MON in the CM area of who to drop, personally not sure Bardsley will be fit so reckon Gardner will be RB which frees up the spot for Campbell. Agreed Sess and McClean have been poor so far and time to give them a kick up the jacksie by dropping them to the bench.
Disagree about dropping Sess, our best player by a mile. People forget he missed pre-season due to injury so needs game time to catch up. Agree McClean should maybe be dropped for a game.
If AJ's fit drop Mclean and put Sess on the left or Alt: stick AJ on the left, Seb on the right and leave Sess in the middle. Sess was poor yesterday but as has been pointed out he's about 5-6 weeks behind re fitness levels.
Sess needs to play to get his fitness levels up but agree JM could do with a kick up the arse, just as long as Campbell gets nowhere near the team, he has been really poor for a long time now.
He hasn't been for the last 3 league games mate. In fact, I think he just thinks now he is an automatic choice and maybe has us over a barrel with this homesick thing. He was a liability yesterday, along with JM, and it would show that no-one is guaranteed a place if they were demoted to the bench for a game.
I like the look of that team Cest, I think it would allow us to compete more in the middle. We have struggled 2nd half with losing the midfield battle. Another option would be to swap Sess and mccleans roles. I don't think Oniell is gonna change it though. He needs these players he is showing faith to to repay that faith.
I don't like Larsson as a central midfielder tbh. He looks lost there and less effective. Would rather have Gardener fighting for a central attacking role as he showed yesterday he offers a forward momentum to the attack whereas Colback just isnt a forward thinking player at all.
That's why I've put him deeper, Catts wins ball, short to Seb, Seb uses, in that system, Seb should often have space, and can look for Sess or AJ. Gardner I like at RB, he seems to get better momentum from there.
I would go with.... -------------- Mignolet -------------- Gardner - O'Shea --- Cuellar ---- Rose Johnson - Catts ----- Colback -- Sess --------- Saha ------- Fletcher ------ subs Kilgallon Westwood Larsson Meyler Vaughan Ji Campbell Lets get at them, was surprised yesterday that we never went at them more, I am sure if we did we would of won
I know he was mate but I think Westie is the better keeper simply because of his better distribution. Mig just hoofs the bastard as far upfield as he can get it almost every time.
Agreed kinda! Alot of the pressure we get put under is due to Migs woeful distribution. No denying Mig is becoming a top class shot stopper, but i wouldn't have to stop so many if he didn't boot it back to the opposition 8 out of 10 times, or McClean the other 2 who generally loses it on the half way line. Both lads have huge potential but mig really needs to work on his distribution, its shocking. McClean imo needs benching for 3-4 games
Westie is just as good a shot stopper imho, better at collecting crosses & his distribution is far, far superior. And I completely agree with you on Jimmy. He needs to sort himself out.
I think what this thread shows is that we do have options, something we were sorely lacking last year.
Poolie I'm with you, I have been banging on about a change of shape and moving Sess to the left side, however it might be a bit too much for an away game at this point, although it is a must that we give Fletcher more support.
