Is it just me or is Adkins too scared to use him ? I think that he has great quality and pressence. If he plays him with Fonte now, they could perhaps form a partnership for the Championship in the future.
Is he out of contract this year? Personally I think the lad has a future. I don't think he has a bad game when he has been used!
I think Martin is out of contract. West Ham were apparently tracking him earlier on. From the performances I have seen him give, we want to keep him on as he is definately one for the future. Out of curiousity, whatever happened to Fitz Hall ? He seemed to have loads of potential but imust be playing his football in the lower tiers.
I think Aaron Martin will be used more next season, as I don't think Seaborne is Championship Quality IMO, and I think Adkins has said that Martin is for the future so fingers crossed, from what we have seen of him, I think he has outstanding potential
And Wally Downes being West Ham's defensive coach was the reason why they were sniffing around Martin. But unless Avram has a look at him, and likes what he sees, I would advise Martin against looking at that move. Just look at Matt Mills - Man City took him off us due to Stuart Wigley recommending him (he was on the City coaching staff, I think as Stuart Pearce's assistant), but he never got a look in and his career stalled. It's all well and good being recommended by the coaching staff, but it's the guy in charge who decides whether or not to play you.
Like most of the posters on here, I am really surprised that Aaron hasn't had more time on the pitch Everytime I have seen him I have been very impressed and think the link up with Jose would be excellent - not sure why he hasn't been given a chance especially as some premiership clubs have been sniffing about looking to snap him up Great future prospect who should be on the pitch not on the bench Dark Lord
Maybe they dont want to put him in the shop window before Aaron signs a new contract. Have him nice n ready for the Championship, rather than unsettled through the closed season with all the press trying to sell him
I do feel sorry for Martin as he hasn't really featured at all this season. Seems he hasn't featured much as we have 2 better CB's in Jaidi & Seaborne ahead of him. If he was good enough & Adkins thought he was better than the other 2 he would be featuring. No doubt in that. He isn't even on the bench at the moment. Its all about if you get a chance than seize it, Like Chambo & Goburn etc have done. Earlier in the season He was given a couple of chances to prove himself & stake his claim, Rochdale & Swindon games both alongside Fonte & we lost both games. Perhaps that was his chance. Looks like he could be a good player but with Jaidi & Seaborne doing their jobs as experienced players there is no reason to alter things. It may sound harsh but look at David Connolly as an example, he got his chance twice in the last 2 games & stepped up to the mark. Wouldn't be at all surprised if connolly started today. All Martin can do is train hard & wait for his time to come again.
Nice thought but wouldn't you rather be a player playing rather than watching in the stands. I would be worried if I was Martin, being 20 or is it 21 ? this year & only being involved in a hand ful of games & not even a regular 3rd choice on the bench. I can't see him just walking into a championship side next season. He is unproven. On hind sight he should of gone out on loan & got more match experience. Adkins would play him if he thought he was that good. Hard for Martin & you can;t help but feel for him
.I am a great believer in going out on loan as a player & getting the match experience you need. He could be a good player but until you prove this on the pitch & get first team games under your belt it is hard to prove. I can't understand how people expect players to just make the jump up to the championship when you haven't featured regular as a League 1 player. Some people expectations are far too high.

Martin has done OK when he has been in the side. He has not had that many opportunities this year it is true. Thankfully we have not had any bad injuries to any of the centre backs. He has had 5 starts and 4 on the bench. There is no doubt he is 4Th choice for that slot. To be honest I am not sure that he will make headway here unless one or 2 get injured. If they intend to keep Jaidi on by the way which would not surprise me, then I think he will be allowed to go which for me is a shame as I think the lad has a future.
I think if we're still in this division next season, Martin will play a big part. If we get promoted, I can see us sending him out loan for the season. He looks good, and he appears to have a lot of potential, but he definately 4th choice right now - and rightly so.
It's always hard being 4th choice. Agree with you he is no doubt 4th choice. Especially at Saints as you have 3 great CB's ahead of you. He is not a youngster either because at 21 you can't afford to be in the background as much as he has, as your playing career is so short. I agree I think they will keep Jaidi & that keeps Martin as 4th choice. Do we have a young CB coming through as well ? Didn't we sign that Plymouth Defender ? I didn't realise he had played & featured so little. he must be worried
