There was a lot of wooing of this player over the summer by some big courtiers and some of the sums discussed where in the £8m and £9m brackets. Big money and we were one of them linked, although never by Marty himself. There was also talk of an England call up ffs.

Just watching him today in that first half and he looks about a £500k/£1m maximum striker to me and evidence if it were ever needed that you shouldn't jump into a one season wonder with big money and the foolhardiness of Norwich for not cashing in on him.

He doesn't look a tenth of the player he was last year and nowhere neat Fletcher (who so many have told us is over priced at £12m).

I fancy Fletcher at 7/1 for the first goal today but would give you longer than that and more on Holt scoring at all today.

Too early to be saying that imo but he does seem like the kind of striker that, once figured out, will become pretty ineffective.

Cest, I got quite excited when we were linked to the lad. Going on last season I thought he would've been a good buy.
Big, powerful & strong. A handful for defenders.

Bit early to be writing him off I think but maybe you're right.

Ricky Lambert at Southampton comes under the same bracket. Good luck to them both but they are not top strikers; they are lower league ones playing out of their skins. Once they cant do that they go back to being Championship strikers.

We should know, as we have had a host of that kind of striker over the decades when we have come up.

There'll always be a place in lower table teams for the "big brute" strikers, but in terms of goalscoring they're not likely to be prolific over a long period of time.

I said I would return to THAT THREAD after your game. But howay MR, why'd you have to do this on a thread deliberately to try and derail it? If you wish to continue or conversation, which I'm sure you don't, then do it via PM and let this thread carry on without the wumming <ok>

Same applies to you Roger, no idea why you felt the need to cut in here, but instead of showing off to your friends, if you wish to say anything at all to me then carry it on via PM, please don't comment on this thread again unless you're answering the OP <ok>

I reckon he'll fizzle out - also due to age. He's no spring chicken.

Not sure how well he will do this season to be honest but it is far too early to make assumptions.

If you look back at the last 3 seasons you will see he starts EVERY season very slowly. Normally takes 6 games or so to really get going and never scores early on in the season.

Having said that, I am a little concerned about our fire power so far, just 2 goals in 4 games is not great although thankfully we are not losing all the time <ok>

Aye thats half the battle in the Prem not losing regularly.
I actually went for a score draw for you today.
Didn't watch the match but it didn't sound as though there were that many chances.

Norwich had 16+ chances, of which at least 11 of them were on target and Holt did not have a single shot on target.
That is quite a worrying couple of stats to my mind but still early days so the panic button is in no imminent danger of being hit <laugh>

Don't you think its more than just coincidence that its only YOU and only YOU that gets into slanging matches on this forum? Can't you see where the problem lies here?

If you cant see it then let me help out a bit.

    Its you.

Thai, I thought your guys deserved to win tbh but Holt was not in the game at any point and looked sluggish, uninterested and nothing like the terror he was all last season. If I were a Canary I'd be more than a little concerned as I cant see where any other goals will come from.

PS - I have a lot of respect for your manager too, who handled the disgrace of his sacking at Scumville with the kind of dignity and honour long lost in this game.

    Good luck.
