Makes you proud to be a Saint! With this level of facility we should be able to attrack the very best youngsters from all over the world - things still looking great!
The new stand will seat 250 people. I believe Portsmouth FC have requested a ground-share already. The fact the new mini-stand will have a flushing toilet and working lights made Pompey realise its a massive step up from Fratton Park.
I've seen that too, but it's bound to be out of date because of the new additions to the plans. Blimey, nobody can accuse this club of lacking ambition anymore.
Pompey rent a training ground in a SO postcode, Saints spend over £15 million improving Staplewood in the New Forest... please log in to view this image
Do pompey still train at the king Edwards owned place on stonham lane? Can't for the life of me remember the name of it!
We are trying to use the Pompey uni training facilities. There has been talk of improving the uni training facilities and building a small stadium, similar to what you see in the USA with college football. Obviously this is way in the future, but I like the idea. The Staplewood facilities look good.
I didn't say tommorow FFS. I've never been massively fond of America but the way they support there young players, right from the off is fantastic. They have like 30000 seater stadiums for high school matches. I think if we eventually get of this very very very dark period, it wouldn't do us any harm to have a peak at the set up in the US of A.
Supporting a college football team is far, far different to supporting a U18 side, I hope you realise? The set-up there is completely incomparable to the one over here.
alot of unis in the states have bigger stadiums than 60,000. Amazing when you consider they are only used 12 times or so a year, mainly old ugly concrete things though
That happened down here at Solent University, they were running a team in the Hampshire Premier League (where Pompey Uni are now), and built a new sports facility at Test Park including a with a stand. They won the League, got admitted to the Wessex League and finished 3rd in their first season, now they are getting close to the stage where they have to start thinking about paying their players. There are a lot of benefits for the Uni and their sports students who can run things like coaching qualifications, or play for a team in the FA league structure if they are good enough. Obviously Southampton weren't involved in that, but it would be a good, and affordable idea for a pro club to be involved as well. But Pompey have a few other issues to sort out first of course.
Where are people going to park if they expect crowds for U18 and U21 matches? The little white square they use at the moment is only just big enough for players and staff.
Absolutely spot on with that. Obviously the short term must be sorted before the long term. One can't happen without the other. This is why it is vital the PST is given the nod. It has planned well and truly for teh short and long term, via running the club within its means. We might not pull up any roots in the "best league in the world". But slowly but surely, the club will be built from the ground up.
Er, I don't think any training facilities in this country will come even close to College Football in America, seeing as stadiums there are in the many thousands of spectator range.
I think they will play the open matches at st mary's? There's certainly a requirement to have some matches there, can't remember how many...
See Man City have spent 200 million on a training complex. Come on you cheapskate, Cortese...only 15 million Have to say I'm not sure what you can get extra for 185 million more. Must be a small city.
