Normally this is the last place i'd post but as the OP says all fans feelings are joined with yours today .May the families finally see light at the end of a long dark tunnel and may justice soon be done for those who went to a game of ball and never came home R.I.P

    QPR Fan in peace.

A tragic tale of death and deception. I watched the events unfold on TV that day and it still brings a tear to my eyes. Anyone who had access to a television could have told you that the fans were not to blame. The police ****ed up big time and when the **** hit the fan, they tried to cover it up by adding lie upon lie. This had an affect on 1000's of lives, not just the 96 who were directly involved.

The tragedy is further compounded by the fact that no one has faced criminal charges over the initial event and more so, the subsequent cover up (which for me was worse than the poor policing on the day). I really hope someone is brought to justice over this and soon.

As for that piece of **** paper 'The Sun', I have just looked on their website and they seem to be saying 'We only reported what we were led to believe'. Not ****ing good enough! There should be an apology on the front page of the website and of tomorrows edition. That oily turd Kelvin McKenzie should remove himself from the face of the earth after making a public apology.

Really sad day today. RIP 96

When those responsible are brought to book, they should be given a year for every life taken due to their incompetence and lies.

What some forgot is that under different circumstances what happened that day could of happened to any club. The problems of that day were nothing new and there had been near misses in the years before that tragic day.

I hope the rumours of what United fans may do as a show of respect at Anfield happens and similar marks of respect are shown nationwide.

Those who died were human beings like you and me, football fans wanting to see their team.

Swans fan in peace - 96 souls can finally rest. I hope this brings some sort of closure to the family and friends. I hope they nail the b*****s who covered this up and caused so much more heartbreak than was necessary. Regardless of club or badge we are all with you on this momentous and long long overdue day.

Awesome to see so many other fans posting on this, thanks to you all. UIR is spot on, this could have happened to any set of fans, the policing at the time involved treating supporters like cattle, and unfortunately it took a disaster to change that.

we all knew lies had been told and mistakes made, what has shocked me is the length gone to to cover and divert blame rather than admitting responsibility.

I hope this goes one step further to bringing closure to the many affected by this.

it's good to finally put this chapter of English football to bed, and that 96 families will now finally have the closure that they deserve.

    Another Mackem in peace.
    Agree with Cest.
    But...
I never believed the bullshit in the Sun.

I haven't bought that **** rag since those days.

Whoever stopped the ambulances and medical crews going into the ground to help, should be done for manslaughter.

41 deaths that could have been avoided, after the tragedy was happening, is obscene.

I, a Hull City supporter, would like to extend my deepest sympathy for the events that happened at Hillsborough. A huge hug to anyone who lost a family member or friend and may justice prevail in this case.

I was 10 when it happened, but I remember sitting watching with my dad, and realizing that something really ****ing awful was happening.

Nothing could be punishment enough for the Police, for the cover ups, and for The Sun, who will likely stick a ****ty heartless apology on page 6 tomorrow.

At least the families and campaigners can now move forward with confidence & clarity, a great weight lifted.

I'm certain that there'll be a rousing and welcoming reception for your fans and players at the SOL on Saturday (no points though, they stay on Wearside ;))

There have long been active campaigners at SAFC, including banners etc regularly displayed in support, so in that way there'll be many delighted at the timing of the fixture.

    All the best, and YNWA.

Today the report confirmed what all Liverpool supporters already knew. The Prime Minister started the healing process with his double apology and all Redmen will thank him for that. Now we must stand by the families as they seek accountability.

We need legal action to be taken. As the families say, they need people to be proved responsible. It's not retribution they or we want.

Back in April 1950 at the age of six I joined the fellowship of football fans with my first game at Ashton Gate. For the next forty odd years like thousands elsewhere we sat in wooden stands that could have meant more Valley Parades, stood on overcrowded terracing like those at Burnden Park and left stadiums by long steep staircases as per Ibrox. At least to the best of my knowledge those catastrophes occurred because most were not really aware of the dangers to safety.
At Walsall v Bristol City in the late 80's the notorious West Midlands police waded into our supporters after a play off final and it was a miracle that no-one was not killed or very seriously injured. The very ones who stitched up the Birmingham Six!
But at Hillsborough the deaths of the 96 occurred because of the total ineptitude of the authorities and now we hear officially of their awful cover up to save their own miserable reputations.
Everyone who follows the wonderful game is a brother or sister so my thoughts go to all those who have been directly or indirectly affected by this tragedy. You do not walk alone.

I'll add my 2p to the other three Sunderland fans above.

The bravery of the families of the 96 ... well there are no words, are there? It brings tears to my eyes, thinking of if it had happened to my son. They are simply superb, dignified but determined to get justice.

I remember a game involving our team and Middlesborough when deaths nearly happened due to crushing and have mentioned this on our board (I was there). To pretend that Hillsborough was some sort of "unavoidable accident" is nonsense. Fans were treat like cattle at the time, and it could have been any of us.

Now, as MR has mentioned above, let's see if all this government apology stuff is serious and charges of perverting the course of justice are made against the top copper liars and manslaughter charges against who stopped emergency services from saving the injured.

Those who say that it could have been any football supporter are perfectly right. We don't claim uniqueness as Liverpool supporters. All we can say is that it happened to us. What we can say is that we have always stood beside the families as fans and as a club and we must continue to do so in their fight for justice. Direalli said "Justice is truth in action" Well we now have the truth confirmed and it is the responsibility of others to ensure that the justice follows from their actions.

However, after today the whole of our society (not just fans) really need to focus their attention on how such a travesty of truth and justice can be both perpetrated and sustained for so long. That's not just a families problem or a Liverpool problem or a football problem. The checks and balances on the establishment have been proven to be too weak and we all need to understand why and what can be done to repair them.

Another SAFC supporter echoing the words of Cest and all others above. Any football fan who saw the events unfold on that terrible day at Hillsborough, is aware that it could have happened to any of us. Now we know the truth is even more awful than anyone imagined. I was in tears reading the report summaries and watching the press conferences this afternoon and just cannot imagine how relatives and friends of the victims are feeling.

My heartfelt prayers to everyone at Liverpool FC, especially to those who have fought so long, and so hard, for 'Justice for the 96'.
