Football chatters a bit slow at the moment so I thought I'd throw this one at you. Watched the movie/documentary Senna couple of nights ago and thought it was superb. I'm not really an F1 fan but found it very emotional never the less. Got me wondering which sport movies are the best? The true life documentaries or the fictional traditional ones? Also which are your favourites from each category? Well I think I prefer traditional sports movies mainly down to a guy called Rocky. My fave traditional sports movie has to be Rocky 2. I grew up watching this movie repeatedly with the tape eventualy being eaten by my betamax. The training montage, the music , the ridiculously fabulous finale the total package still inspires me to go to the gym and do one handed push ups. My fave documentary is Closer to the Edge - TT3D Missed this in 3D at the pictures GUTTED but have it on blu ray. Fantastic in depth look at the worlds greatest motorcycle race and the crazy bastards that compete in it. Hopefully one day I'll get to watch it for real and see Guy Martins awesome sideburns up close. Over to you guys.
senna is an excellent film. raging bull is superb, but very dark. of recent ones, i found moneyball and warrior to be very good.
Senna is excellent, gripping. The damned united is one of my favourites. Great movie. When we were kings is great too. Rocky was great to watch as a kid, still is.
Stallone did good in Rambo and Rocky, well the early films anyway. He absolutely ruined what could have been a good film in "Escape to Victory!" Looked like he was someone walked passed the set and they said can you act! And he lied and said yes! Ardilles's over the shoulder flick whilst running, had my boys practising it none stop, until they were both doing it at full pace. Loved "Rollerball" when I was younger, actually a good story apart from the brutal action, which I went to watch it for. . "Grand Prix" had some great camera work. "The Hustler" Newman at his coolest. "Slap Shot" Another Newman movie, but I l loved the nasty twins in it. "North Dallas Forty" Nick Nolte. "The Champ" The 30s one.
Yeah I've seen it and it is very good but is it better than Over The Top? Arm wrestling awesomeness! ;-)
anyone seen Chariots of Fire? Gets a lot of critical praise but never seen it myself. others deserving a mention The Fighter Happy Gilmore White Men can't Jump The Hurricane
Chariots of fire is sooooo boring the word could have been invented for it. Happy Gilmore is drivel from beginning to end. I did like the Hurricane mind. PS. It wasn't twins in Slap Shot it was THREE brothers.
the best movie (imo)is gentle jim corbett starring errol flynn with ward bond playing john l sullivan, errol was a boxer in real life before films and the footwork in the movie is supposed to be his own.also a cracking film the quiet man with john wayne ward bond and maureen o hara.
Any Given Sunday and I don't even like American football. Some of the best quotes in movie history: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146838/quotes
The blind side, its what sandra bullock won her oscar for. Based on a true story about michael ohr, an american football player adopted by a rich family, crackin watch.
not really a movie but a made for tv documovie! Espn's 30 for 30 series. ( all on Netflix) Some of my Favorites are: "the real rocky" Chuck Wepners Story - Stallone really ripped him off (proper ****), its good on 2 levels. Roll Tide War Eagle- College football biggest rivalry - These ****ers are mad like Run Ricky Run- NFL more a look into humanity Birth of Big Air- Matt Hoffman doing stupid things on a BMX
Couldn't remember the name!!! Tis class. Honourable mention to Angels in the Outfiled and Field of Dreams. Anyone seen The Endless Summer???
North Dallas Forty for me. Realistic and pretty gritty. Rocky was utter ****e. He gets pummelled for 14 rounds and then makes a bit of a comeback and people in the film think he's worth a draw? And when I say "pummelled" I mean the other bloke (who used to be a linebacker for the Raiders) practically takes a sledgehammer to his head!
No hollywood crap, ALi v liston, patterson, frazier, norton , formam.. He was the best of the best, don't think i'll see anything like it again (FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY STING LIKE A BEE, WHAT'S MY NAME, WHAT'S MY NAME ) The guy's a legendhero.. Would like to see someone (english) make a true story - movie of the 1972-1973 season of the lad's..ktf.. bob's still god.
