Someone criticised Liverpool fans on here a while ago for not letting Hillsborough go. Good on those that didn't and continued to fight for the truth. They have been vindicated.
Well replied Fu King, we should not forget Heysel! I don't think the police are wholly to blame, yes they lost control of the situation, but If a mob ran towards me I'd get out of the way, the people that sadly died that day had been in the ground since the doors had opened and were at the front of the stands & had not been in the pubs & streets around the ground drinking. What concerns me is that no-one has mentioned the people who were in the pubs until minutes before kick off & the one's who turned up without tickets & jumped the turnstiles & forced the floodgates, coming in from the back of the stands causing a surge forward, when will they be mentioned. Once again it's a report designed to go for the soft touch, the police, yes, they have to be held accountable, but, so do the people who stormed the gates forcing them open & surged into the crowd causing a push to the front. Part of the coroner's report says blood samples were taken from the victims & these showed no discernable amount of alcohol in their systems, like I said they had been there since the doors were opened. A lot of people have to look at the part they played in this & hold themselves accountable.
I'm sorry mate but what exactly are you basing those statements on? You're stating them as if they are facts. Were you there? That sounds like the bullshit the police were making up to blame the scousers. The same bullshit the enquiry has just thrown out. I loved that the police did records checks on the poor dead, to try to find something to hold against them. The Suns total bullshit story has twisted the whole of this sad event, even though MCKenzie has apologised, some people will still say it was true as it suits their way of thinking. PS. I had a friend who was there, not involved in the tragedy, but said they were getting herded together by the police. The crowds only option was to move in the direction they were being forced. The crush outside was made worse by this, as they all couldn't get through the turnstiles quickly enough to ease the pressure.
I think most of the Scousers realised that the fans there were not totally blameless but, for the authorities to lump all the blame onto the fans that day was a disgrace. The fact that several Governments withheld these reports and the data was again a disgrace and, no doubt there will be legal actions taken against the ones who were in charge (if they are still around). I for one am happy for the victims families that they have finally got to the truth and can now move on.
Oh they have, just to mention the fact they didn't actually exist and were a figment of South Yorkshire Police's imagination, this from David Cameron's statement (and this one's for the poster above me too): The problem is, people like you will always believe what you want, even though the truth is now out there. You are too lazy and ignorant to even read the report or to read about any of the findings the panel revealed today.
Lucaas. Your quote from the report simply says not EXCEPTIONAL levels of ticketlessness and drunkenness. Therefore, there were still some, number unknown, who did do this. Undoubtedly, police and government mainly to blame and today's report has exposed that.
Well said. Lets not keep this police bullshit going after it has been completely ruled out now. These 96 innocents must have some justice now as well.
Look, many people go to the match drinking, come on who on here hasn't? I'm sure many have gone to the match without tickets. It has happened an awful lot I would guess, none of these games resulted in 96 fans dying. These people went to watch a football match and the people there who were supposed to protect them failed. Not only that but when they lost loved ones and children and brothers and sisters and parents the police went to great lengths to cover their own backs. The government at the time were very anti football fans. Let's face it at the time they were hardly covering themselves in glory. This however was fans from most clubs. This could have happened to any of us going to matches at the time. To try and have a go at Liverpool fans on this occasion is simply not justified. Those still saying they should have a look at their own actions on the day are way out of line and quite frankly disrespectful. Ask yourself had someone in your family died that day would you be saying the same? This isn't a tribal football thing where it's because they were Liverpool fans. These were people who loved football and wanted to see their team play. Some of them children. Some parents had to watch from different stands knowing their children were in that end and they never saw them again. To the point where the police wouldn't let them touch their own dead children. These people have been to hell and back to make good their loved ones names. If you have nothing decent to say just please say nothing.
Well said Cest, and I see your thread on the LFC board was appreciated. Anyone remember our League Cup tie at Boro when we were in the Third Division? The same could have happened to us. We were all crammed into a tiny area as Boro were having building work done and me & others climbed out over a wall into seats as we were being crushed. Disgustingly the locla media just gave the police version the next day that there had been no problem accomodating the away fans. Fans were treat like **** at the time. Liverpool fans are to be congratulated for never giving up and for fighting for justice against the police/Sun liars.
dave i was there that night marra and managed to get myself on the front page of the echo the next day being pictured climbing over the fence into the seats. The headline was "HOOLIGANS" but nothing could be further from the truth as I was doing this to avoid being crushed. I remember it like yesterday, a 2-0 defeat (2-1 on aggregate) and there was hell on outside before and after the game, but not at the time when i was climbing in the seats, our standing bit was too full, There was hundreds climbing in, and that could have been another disaster
The present Chief Constable has said the police's behaviour on that day was totally wrong and shocking. Every senior officer involved in the cover up and altering statements should be prosecuted to the full force of the law. (Not the law as certain police officers see it!). This was a conspiracy from the highest level. Whoever stopped the ambulances and medical teams going to help the injured and dying should face MANSLAUGHTER charges. From what has been said 41 people could have been saved if they had received basic medical treatment. That disgusts me.
Mr RAW, Murray Out, cheers for your posts. I've heard excuses made that Hillsborough couldn't have been avoided as nothing similar had happened before! It's bollocks, it could easily have been our fans, and no doubt fans from many other teams. And MR is right. Obviously the coppers didn't plan to kill anyone that day, but lying is perverting the course of justice and denying the emergency services access to dying people is manslaughter.
I'm not anti police Dave. I know there was no intent on the police part, but for them to fabricate evidence to pass the buck should not be allowed. I actually have a couple of mates who are coppers. The thing is people who haven't actually come into contact with coppers in real life, just don't believe these public servants would do anything so wrong. I have been thrown in the back of a meat wagon walking from Roker Park given a kicking in the back of the van and hoyed out further down the road. Without a word being said by the coppers. The only time I was charged with assault was against a copper. When some bouncers down the town decided to beat up my mate. A couple of us put the bouncers down and when the police came they wouldn't even listen to our side of things. He lied through his teeth in court and arranged for another officer to back him up. I didn't have legal representation so could ask the coppers questions myself. I told the truth in court that I had had 10 pints. Which shocked the magistrates but not as much as when I said I normally had 15 to 20 pints. When I told the magistrates that the officer giving evidence wasn't even there, they recessed. Made some enquiries, and I assume his actual police log or notebook proved he wasn't there. As when they came back they said they were dismissing the charges and other questions would be asked of the officers superiors. I heard nowt more of it, so no idea if it was actually followed up. When I came home from court and told my dear old Mum the good news. She said, well you still must have done something to upset the police officer.
MR, point taken mate! A mate of mine - a simple, naive lad - was once sent down for six months for something he hadn't done. I was there. I witnessed the "crime". A copper later told total lies in court to get the lad sent down. It wasn't a mistake. It was lies, they knew the lad was innocent. Therefore, like you, I don't conclude that EVERY copper is some sort of criminal, and I'm sure most people join the police thinking they're doing good - but some are and they very rarely are called to account for their abuses. Well done on winning your court case though!
As an addendum, Dave. In the passage outside the court, after the case was dismissed, the coppers were threatening me and told me they would do me next time they saw me in town. The court usher or clerk? The guy who wears the black smock and calls out the names! Was standing behind them and heard everything, give the bloke his due he pushed past them and asked me if I wanted a witness to their threats. I just told him they weren't worth the hassle.
I never for one moment believed any of that **** that the Sun printed. I've never trusted it since the '84 miners strike when I witnessed police brutality first hand with my own eyes and no doubt the police, government & certain tabloid press collaborated on that as well. Having said that, organisations I trusted such as the BBC & ITN were reporting that Liverpool fans were partially responsible for turning up drunk & ticketless en mass. Last night at work I read the main points of the report & now that the fans have been vindicated, I feel ashamed that for so long I have allowed what I thought were trustworthy news channels to cloud my judgement & pull the wool over my eyes. I hope we stand shoulder to shoulder with them on Saturday & show them solidarity.
