http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/hillsborough-documents-released-brian-reade-1318730 An incredibly moving account of the tragedy by Brian Reade, I urge every true football fan to read this article on a day when the Prime Minister says he is profoundly sorry.
Thanks for that Nines. I'd never read a full account of it before. Someone had only mentioned on here about a week ago how "The Sun" reported events with their version of the truth. It would be fitting if the current editor ran an apology in tomorrow's paper. After all, if the PM can do it so can a newspaper.
Tomorrows Sun should be interesting Swords, I wonder if Kelvin McKenzie is squirming right now. The lengths that the police went to cover up the events of that day is astounding. The revelations that will follow will be really shocking.
The police involved should do time for this. Its a complete disgrace what they did. Then again they do it for every minor bit of trouble too, they 100% caused the only major trouble Ive seen by holding QPR fans after the game and not allowing them to leave, then all hell broke loose because the away fans came out and we were only separated by a rickety fence which was within seconds of coming down. **** the police, I despise them.
Me too, I remember the police trying to stop people from escaping by climbing up the fence. Any idiot could see there was a problem apart from the people in uniform.
If McKenzie doesn't now retract his smears and lies he should be sued for slander and libel by every Liverpool Supporters Club worldwide in private prosecutions. They might not win their cases but the real truth will follow the bastard everywhere he goes every day for the rest of his miserable life.
Were used to journos doing it but he was fed info by the police, what they did was 10 times worse because they knew it was lies where as he probably thought it was the truth.
Educational read, thanks for posting Nines. Struggling with emotions right now, both sorrow and anger. There's nothing that angers me more than when a grave injustice has been done. The cover up a big stain on British history. Reading this as a father myself, it really hits home. #justice96
We all knew who was truly responsible for that fateful day already, these documents only confirm the horrific truth. The sad epitaph to this event is i very much doubt any of the old bill involved will ever be brought to justice. All of those involved are either retired or dead, the powers that be detest bringing charges against the any police officers, and when they do 90% of the time they get away with their misdemeanours. It will be extremely interesting to see how this now proceeds, but i really hope those who were culpable are finally given what they deserve. It's nothing more than those who perished, and those families who have had to go on after losing them, deserve.
Thank f*** going to football is a completely different place to visit than it was then. The police f***** up big time, the Government tried to cover up their f*** ups and 'The S**' believed their lies. One thing I will say though, is that what happened has to be looked at in the context of the times. A football ground could be a dangerous place to visit. Crushes on the terraces, hooligans a plenty and an often belligerent police service. I would like to think it would never happen in this country ever again.
Shocking and harrowing article-thanks for posting it. Us older ones can remember the times when fans were packed into grounds like sardines but Hillsborough still shocks me to this day. Reading about the father who lost his two girls is heartbreaking. Cant say much more as the lies and deceit for the last 23 years makes me so angry.
Whilst I agree with everything you say, it's worth mentioning for accuracy that the report specifically stated that the panel didn't find any evidence that the Government (either at the time nor any subsequent administrations, lest I get accused of politicking) tried to conceal the truth (as stated in Westminister earlier today). But yes, it is a sobering thought that we all attended games in the time of fences and terraces, and thankfully this cannot happen again.
Sorry - totally disagree. The vast majority of police are brilliant - you can't damn the whole profession for the few instances you quote. Well you can, but it makes you look foolish when you do...
But theyre not, they are only interested in self preservation and not upholding the law. Giving them power only enforces this. Turns them into little hitlers because they can do what they want and get away with it like the filth do. My personal experiences have only confirmed this even though I have never been arrested or charged. After I a guy get shot with a bean bag shotgun. They were not interested in asking me what I saw, only that I heard them shout a warning. No doubt theyd have made that up anyway if they didnt shout.
