Read on Monday, as in another thread, that Ranger was out injured for up to four weeks. Now, I play 5s in complete football, Gosforth and turned up on Monday top play our game and it turned out the team we were meant to be playing were late.

There was a team just waiting around and told us they were willing to play us in a friendly if the team didnt show up. The team consisted of 5 southern sounding black lads and a white Geordie keeper. One of the lads I was playing was Nile Ranger, despite 'injury' concerns he was willing to go out on a cold Monday evening and play a joke friendly game. Before the match, the ref warned our team that the 'big fella has a good strike, watch out' and ironically he wasnt talking about our Nile.

Proud to say we played ten minutes against them and they didn't score! Played the same team again last night, minus Ranger and we drew 11-11, in a class hard fought match. The lads were a class above us in footy terms but we just worked harder and drew, very satifying.

Anyway just thought I'd share this weird meeting with you lads/ladies

    Haha, I know eh?

I play mondays and tuesdays, with slightly different teams and top division in Tuesday but only just started bottom rung in Monday. Seen a few players kickin about there before. Used to see Nobby Solano with his team he's coaching every Tuesday, and there's this ex boro keeper I've played against whose like 50 with a belly, but is unplayably good in net!

I didn't know it was a celebrity hotspot! I've only played there once, but the facilities look good and there is a decent standard of talent kicking around. Vastly different to the old astropitch I used to play on in Scotland with the lads, where the closest you'd get to a celebrity was the latest ASBO holder throwing stones at you...

Haha, don't worry, I've been there as well! Played a few times in a league in the East end of Glasgow, and though I'd just get the **** kicked outta me. The pitch was in the middle of 4 tower blocks... to be honest complete football is rougher than that place though. My team is not a very aggressive bunch of guys, but the amount of fights/sendings off have been ridiculous. The Glasgow one was a bit of a celeb hotspot as well though as Kevin Bridges was coming off the pitch as I was going onto it!

Sounds like you put up a good fight, you should get in touch with the club and let them know Ranger's 'pulling a sickie'!
