http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/09/11/3369112/-? He seems to have a want to get Catts committed to the club. I for one am delighted with this. Wonder if the anti-catts brigade agree with him
EVery team needs a lee cattermole, fascinates me how folk can think otherwise. But most are turning on jm of late so that obviously means they know jack ****. I'm over the moon we look to be keeping catts. Hope he keeps his no noncence attitude too. Midfield looking stronger than ever at the moment.
If he signs then I'll be pleased about it. Very underrated imo, although still a little rash at times.
I'm in the undecided camp, TBH. He seems to be getting himself under control, but if MON is happy then signing him would be OK by me. We only see what happens on the pitch and obviously know bugger all about the behind-the-scenes stuff. If MON rates him he'll have his reasons.
There is absolutely no chance of Lee going anywhere else just now and will sign a new contract imo very soon. He is becoming the solid anchor around which MON is building our new look team and with one of his boyhood mates just arriving (and I still reckon Catts had a major hand in this btw) in Adam Johnson, we are looking to have some local NE talent in the core of the team along with Jack Colback. When Catts went off against Swansea we looked a pale shadow in midfield and his drive, ambition and desire to win are priceless attributes in any team sport. Yes he can frustrate and annoy with some silly tackles and ridiculous decisions but these are now fewer and further between episodes and in general, his discipline has been excellent under the new managers guidance. There will always be isolated moments and heated mistakes but imo, Lee Cattermole at 24 years old should be the mainstay of our midfield engine room for the next 4 or 5 years, unless we are about to go and spend the £15m or £20m to find something significantly better and again imo, I wouldnt swap him for Parker, Barry or any other current England defensive midfielder. Watch this space for a new 4 year deal very soon.
marty marty sign him up. we were overrun as soon as he went off against swansea. the only shame with him is that he will never get a clean slate with refs - sometimes he's overzealous, often he makes challenges that are fouls or deserve a card, but half the time he will make a fair challenge and get a booking where the ref wouldn't even blow for any other player on the pitch.
i really like him and think we should be building the team around him, he's what 24? and played about 8yrs in the prem!! he's quality.
Totally under rated footballer. As someone else said, our most consistent player last term. He makes one mistake in a game and the haters jump straight on it, and claim he was crap the whole game. Or worse still a liability! Totally missing the point that his job was to disrupt the opposition, which IMHO he is one of the best in the league. Previously he was having to do too much hard graft covering for **** defenders, doing his job and theirs. (Leading to some last gasp challenges, where if he hadn't made the challenge, we would have paid for it.) MON has moved them on, we will see the very best of Catts from now on as he has footballers around him now.
Decent spoiler, but lacks basic ability...I don't think he is our long term answer for the defensive midfield role..
Absolutely right - I remember a couple of season ago we playeed West Ham and Ilunga (I think) went in 2 footed over the ball on Richardson and got a yellow card. 2 minutes later Cattermole wins the ball cleanly with no contact on the player and gets a yellow card - if I was him I'd feel like saying to a ref "You don't need my name for the book as you must already have it written down before kick off" Spot on MR - particluarly the bold bit I've made - in the cup game against Morecambe he gave the ball away 4 times from long range 50-60 yard passes. He completed 6 passes of similar ilk in the same game and no-one appeared to see any of them on here - he was ****e for the whole game apparently!
Without a player like Cattermole our midfield would be overrun. I think O'Neil has had a positive influence on his occasional reckless behavior although referees don't seem to have realised this and continue to punish him based on his reputation rather than any offence. I've never understood those who often rate Meyler above Cattermole when he's barely had a game for the past 3 seasons.
When he has his head screwed on, he's a solid defensive player. But he puts in awful challenges too often for me. His behaviour in the last 4 derbies has been disgraceful.
When he has his head screwed on he is one of the best in the PL in that position - better (IMO) than Tiote - And his head has been firmly screwed on since O'Neill arrived on the scene - he committed one foul in the derby game and got kicked by Tiote 6 or 7 times before Tiote got booked (including a terrible, potential career ending rake of studs down the achilles) and you say CATTERMOLE behaved disgraceful - look closer to home Tash
