Hi folks. This morning I read this tweet on the BBC: I have to say, if this is true, I am not surprised either. We all know Reina's form has slipped of late. Whether this is because he has lost confidence, every one has learnt his weaknesses, he doesnt want to be at LFC or has got complacent due to lack of decent competition, we do not know. But our super reliable stopper has suddenly become not so reliable. But maybe we are just looking for a younger keeper who can replace Reina one day, as that does seem to be the emptier position in our youth ranks. Either way, when our new scouts arrive and our committee is formed, I can see their first task being to find a striker and a goal keeper. A few options are around. If an experienced keeper is needed then we may have missed out slightly with Spurs signing Hugo Lloris, who is a decent keeper and just 25. But if a younger keeper is wanted for the future the stand out name is Jack Butland. But in the past we have pinned expectation on Kirkland and Carson and gained no reward. So what can you see happening? What names would you like to see linked if we are going to be looking for a senior keeper? and who are some exciting young keepers? I am a big fan of Tim Krul at Newcastle, who is very reliable and good on the ball. Trying to avoid the Swansea reserves tag, Michel Vorm looks a talent to and knows Rodgers style already. But at 28 years old, the owners may not be so sure on Vorm. please log in to view this image Another Tweet: "LFC goalkeeper Reina has been given until January to prove he should stay as No.1 or Rodgers will start looking for a new keeper". Liverpool plan to drop starting keeper Pepe Reina in January in order to sign Rodgers old boy Michel Vorm. #LFC http://tinyurl.com/9nm4bg4 RT. I think we really need a young promising GK to compete with Reina. All first team goalkeepers in our squad are 30 or above. #LFC
I think signing him and loaning him straight back out would be good. At some point I'd like to see him spend time at LFC learning Rodgers style before he jumps into the deep end. But as he is 19 he has plenty of time ahead of him. Give him a loan in the Championship followed by a loan in the Premier League and he could build up pretty well. Plus the odd England game is a bonus to. I think we should have a look at Englands goalie coach from the Euro's to. I cant remember his name though. He joined Ray Clemence as a young coach who could be the next England goalie coach.
LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Pepe Reina has called for a return to Anfield for former boss Rafa Benitez. Before news broke that Liverpool had offered Brendan Rodgers a three-year contract to become the Redsâ manager, Reina told Spanish radio that he felt Rafa Benitez was the âidealâ choice for the role. Speaking to Radio Marca, Reina said: âThe truth is that they have sounded out a lot of coaches [for Liverpool FC]. âObviously whoever it is will be welcomed at the club but Rafa Benitez, for me, is the coach who made me and I cannot be objective about him because, for me and, I believe, for a lot of my team mates, he is the best and in my opinion would be the ideal candidate.â http://www.anfieldroad.com/news/lfc...a-rafa-benitez-is-the-coach-who-made-me.html/ There was talk last season of bringing back Xavi Valero, Reina's keeping coach under Rafa. Torres also credited him with being responsible for many of his goals because of his advice on opposition keepers. So obviously we don't want any more of that. Hodgson told the three-times Golden Glove winner to play "more like an English keeper". Because until last season no English keeper had won a Goilden Glove. And we won't be signing Joe Hart.
He's refering to Scholes. Who's next to come out of retirement for Manchester United? Is it Sammy Mcilroy? Nah he was **** when he was in his prime. Is it Bobby Charlton? Even at 97, he would be better than Carrick.
Like every position on the pitch having direct competition is the aim. With Goalkeepers it's more difficult to retain true competition because of the length of time they'll spend on the bench but it doesn't mean we can't get as close to the aim with a bright young keeper. Get him, say Butland (just for example ) and play him in the Europa and/or CoC. (not so much this season obviously)If he does brilliantly and your first choice keeper is still in a slump then you switch them. It's the other importance of being in all comps as long as possible. And conspiracy theories about ulterior motives are just plain laughable...
the goalkeeper from borrusia monchengladbach (sorry spelling) has had great reviews and he is quiet young. i do believe pepe has taken his position for granted and he does indeed need a kick up the arse!!!!
Marc Andre Ter Stegen. He narrowly missed out on going to the Euros to some guy who used to be on the books at United (having 5 knocked past him by the Swiss probably sealed it.) Ron Robert Zieler, or something like that.
Scholes came out of retirement? Was this before or after we signed Anderson for 24million and Tevez for 32million in 2004?!
Is that a joke? He retired in summer 2011, and Ferguson persuaded him to rejoin United in January 2012. If we know that, surely you (and the other guy in this thread) should.
I don't even know if you're joking. Any other poster and I'd assume they were joking but because its you I'm not sure whether you're joking or whether you've been concentrating on Liverpool too much and not been keeping up with Man Utd news.
Now tell me where I said Tevez cost £32 million and Anderson cost £24 million? You're barking up the wrong tree with that one pal. I said Anderson cost £26 million, I never mentioned Tevez or 2004.
