The Frenchman joined the club in August after his short-term spell at Tottenham expired, and after making appearances from the bench in each of their three games so far this term, he says he is delighted with life in the north-east. "We have good players here, and not only the strikers can score goals," Saha told the club's official website. "There is quality in the side and I am very happy to be part of such an enjoyable way to play football. "It's great to be here. In the manager's mind I think he can see clearly that he wants nice football and to see the players enjoying themselves. "The team spirit is there and we have players like Lee Cattermole to make sure the balance is right. It's a good set-up. "We have a good team and can look for good things this season. I'm pretty sure that at the end of the day we are going to be happy." Saha is now one of the players still at the club's training ground with 12 others absent due to international duty, and while he says while it is difficult to adjust to, he is using the opportunity to build up his fitness. He added: "It's a bit stop start at the moment, but the lads are concentrating. This is a good opportunity for some players to get some fitness. "We have to chance to work really hard to make sure that when the Premier League kicks in again next week we are ready and at full fitness."
i've warmed quite a bit to saha the past few years, he comes across well spoken in the media and occasionally wrote some good pieces for the evening standard down london way... that said, unless we get hit with injuries i think he's only ever going to be little more than a bench-warmer for us...
i would prefer to call him an impact player, rather than a 'bench warmer' a term which has implied meaning which i think unfair for someone at Saha's stage of his career. He can't have come here expecting a regular start but football is now very much a squad game and he has the quality and mindset to make an impact in games off the bench or for the 1st hr in certain matches. He also has much experience to share with younger players. I think we all have to start looking at players in a slightly less black and white way, it's not all about your best 11
Good shout mate. Saha is far more than just a bench-warmer in my eyes too. In fact, if Fletcher was injured, he would be a direct replacement in that position and indeed for some games, would be an excellent partner for Fletcher in a front two, especially at home.
Im warming to him too thought he was passed it but if he gets his fitness up we as a team will be better for it
He is a quality replacement for Fletcher or Sess. Were going to get injuries so I can see him playing quite a number of games. I hope Campbell gets some games too as I think if he gets a couple of goals he could get 10+ for us this season given a run in the side.
