Saturday and no football, so what are you all doing today then?

Feet up, watching the box? Gardening? Shopping with the wives?

I think I'll pop over to SJP and walk around the ground a few times saying a few Hail Mary's and a few Our Fathers.

 

Watching the cricket on the TV for me. £50 for a womens match and 40 overs of men's cricket, is too much for me.

 

Ridiculous price for a womans match, you'd think the powers that be would have known that. Much better all round to have half that price and twice the gate. It would make for a much better atmosphere.

Saw them draw 1 - 1 with Lincoln on Bank Holiday Monday. Good day out for £14.

 

Back in the days of the old 3rd division North, Lincoln were one of the top teams and I think they might have been responsible for Gateshead not getting promotion at one time.

 

In the match programme they had a table from the 1930's in Lincoln were 1st and Gateshead were near the top.

 

Not looked that far back but in the 50's Gateshead were very unlucky. If promotion had been the way it is today they'd have gone up a division but weren't elected because it was the longest distance to travel for the other teams.

Some kind of justice when the distance between teams stops promotion.

 

It was the old voting system that saw them voted out of the league.

 

Shouldn't have ever happened, but once again it just shows that things are and were then, run by old fuddy duddies that know nothing about football or justice.

 

I know me dad told us it was the first time they were up for re-election and clubs like Crewe were always saved.

 

Yes, the first time they'd been up for re-election and I think Hartlepool had been up for re-election almost every season before that. For the sake of the distance between Hartlepool and Gateshead, they lost their League status.

The thing is, the team that replaced them was Workington so it proved to be a bit of a longer journey for most teams.
