Alan Hutton. What am I missing here?

Think we all would have happily had Hutton on a permanent deal after witnessing a superb loan spell here at the back end of the 2009/10 season but sadly it didn't come off. We were told at the time it was because Spurs wanted £7m for him. The he signed for Villa £3m deal last summer but we didn't even go for him?

Now, all of a sudden he isn't getting a game at Villa and seems to be persona non grate with Lambert (after he has only been manager 5 mins) and would have been available, it would seem on a free, cut price deal or loan last month and yet still no-one went in for him, including us with huge full back shortages?

What am I missing here? He was a quality full back from what I could see and just what we need it would seem, as when fit Bardsley played better at LB and our problem would have been sorted for very little outlay if any at all.

Gardener should be better used in the centre of midfield imo and Hutton could have gone straight into the team. So, my question is - what the hell is wrong with Alan Hutton?

Would have had him after his spell with us mate but, not now he is just not good enough from what I've seen. His tackling for a full back is woeful and his attacking from the wing (maybe stinted by Villas tactics) was none existent. Think there was more to the price tag for us than £7m, reckon Hutton himself saw how well he did with us and decided there was better teams who would have him and, more than likely bigger wages than we were prepared to give him. His loss mate not our problem.

Apart from his loan spell with us he's been gash for the last few years. Rather have Bardo.

I've not watched his performances too closely since he left us, but most players effectiveness will be massively influenced by the team and system they are playing in, and the orders they take onto the pitch.
Hutton looked a natural attacking wing back in his time with us, and I wouldn't have minded him back in the squad as specialist cover in that position rather than using specialist mid fielders as infill

Great going forward but the lad can't defend. That's a bit of a pre requisite for a defender

I know a lad who used to live near Hutton when he was at Spurs, & supposedly he is a real arsehole.

Says he was tearing up & down the street in a Lamborghini, & when a woman asked him to calm down as there were kids playing he gave her a real awful tirade of abuse, & carried on.

I think more & more now clubs will avoid this kind of personality, Lambert for sure is pretty straight up.

ALthough he did canny for us I would still have Bardsley in front of him when fit.
The guy does seem to have an attitude problem.
I'm betting he is on silly money and he is daft enough to believe he is worth every penny.

have been reading the same articles for a week or two now, and like you Cest, Im bewildered, you dont become a bad player overnight, Maybe , Hutton is doing to Judas`s bird, what Judas was doing to Brucies daughter. Like the Aussies say " What goes around comes around"

Spot on Turnip, I too heard that when he left us after being on loan, he was very loathe to sign for us permanently, believing he could do much better for himself.
