Is it January next year and will we lose Aluko for a month if so? That will be hard for us. I assume Faye isnt playing for his country anymore is he?
Dont see the problem myself. We should have enough cover. Assuming that Aluko got to the final he would miss the following games : - Peterboro(a) 19th jan - FA.Cup 4th rd or Derby(h) 26th jan - Millwall(a) 2nd feb and Brighton(a) 9th feb. I think we can cover for those matches. Maybe even with Fraizer Campbell ?
Faye hasn't played internationally for two years, Olofinjana hasn't played for four years and I'm not sure if Aluko will make the squad, he's only ever played two games for Nigeria.
I know he's black and his name isn't Smith but what the **** would he want to go and play for Nigeria for???
This is according to wikipedia; but seems pretty detailed. The squad picked for the September for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia DOES NOT include Sone Aluko The last time he was picked for the Nigeria team was in June against Rwanda in a qualifier for the same tournament. Interestingly; Victor Moses is there. Never knew he was a Nigeria international :S
I've just checked and he is in their current squad, which is a bit of a surprise as they're only allowed 11 players who play overseas and they've left out John Obi Mikel, Taye Taiwo and Peter Odemwingie. The eleven overseas players selected are: Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Lille, France), Austin Ejide (Petach Tikva, Israel) Defenders: Joseph Yobo (Fenerbache, Turkey), Efe Ambrose (Ashdod, Israel), Elderson Echiejile (Sporting Braga, Portugal) Midfielders: Fengor Ogude (Valrenga, Norway) Forwards: Ike Uche (Granada, Spain), Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow ,Russia), Sone Aluko (Rangers, Scotland), John Utaka (Montpellier, France), Victor Moses (Wigan Athletic, England) The list was announced in May, hence Aluko still being listed as a Rangers player.
Aluko was training with Hull City yesterday-thursday. He tweeted that McLean was making him laugh over something. They did no ball work just running apparantly.
Because his family are Nigerian. Same reason Owen Hargreaves played for England and Bo Myhill plays for Wales.
Cheeras OLM been searching for info, saw that Odemwingie etc were left out. Not committed according to their coach. Pleased he is in but we will miss him if its a month in Jan.
It was obviously his own choice, as he had played for England through U16/17/18 & U19, I guess he thought little chance of making the England team, so he opted for Nigeria.
Hargreaves should have played for Canada and Myhill for the USA, I don't personally buy into all this Grandparents bollocks, Aluko is English just like Andy Dawson, If you can't make it in your own country then you can't make it, Simple.
I agree that the Grandparent rule is daft, though it doesn't apply to anyone I mentioned. Myhill's mum is Welsh and he moved back from America before he was one, he's never known anywhere else, playing for America would seem far more alien to him than playing for Wales.
