for so long as a sints fan, i've had to endure throwing away last minute results and dropping points, but suddenly this season the shoe seems to be on the other foot. When did is this happen, so many good last minute results and comebacks, today was the icing on the cake. and what an important goal for Connolly!
Many pour scorn on Adkins methods and his "management speak" but it does seem to give the lads confidence and heart that I've not seen a Saints side have since Lawrie's day.
I am more than happy to have Nigel as our manager. He will make mistakes as indeed will our players at times. We now seem to have some spirit in the camp and even after Jaidi made that horror mistake which led to their goal, we raised our game and got the result we needed. Only wish Nigel would say what he wants in less words.
Adkins seems to have great spirit & belief. That seems to rub off on the players. Loving to see the saints side we played today. To come back from behind & nick a win is brilliant. I think it has changed since we have had more attacking options & strength coming off the bench. About a month ago we seemed to have a bench packed with defenders which seemed crazy. Now we have just 2 defenders on the bench that can cover all the back line with injuries, with the other places filled with midfielders/ strikers. In my opinion this is the change we needed to cover all different scenarios that occur during a game.
Over the time that Nigel has been here I have seen a change in the Saints team. His optimism, confidence and nous mean that the team never give up and always believe they can come back. His confidence can sound like arrogance (if you're an idiot) but if your manager doesn't think you're the bees' knees who will. A lot of fans seem to think we should play like Barcelona at all times, and criticise Adkins because he can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Our team is good in this division, but is not the finished article. I hope NA gets the chance to produce the team he wants.
In my opinion it never 'changed' we were all over them from the word go, and apart from a five minute spell for Brighton (during which they got their goal) we were the dominant force. Sounded as if everyone played well, and despite a silly backpass, Radhi Jaidi was solid too. A great result and it was just a case of when one went in, another would follow - I had this down as 1-2 to the Saints, and David 'Fox in the Box' Connolly did not disappoint. Me a very happy bunny. When the Fonte goal went in my Dad jumped up off the sofa (we were listening in the living room) and grabbed me, bear-hugged me and threw me in the air before sitting down quickly remembering his back is buggered, as are his knees and he is taking steroids because he is having breathing trouble right now. It's amazing what Saints can make you do. P.S. we had the windows open and our opposite neighbour jumped due to the shouting (she was sunbathing in her front garden)
I'll tell you what, even I'll even sunbathe in my front garden if we go up!!!!!!!!!!! not sure the neighbors will approve.......... Now if this gets out half of Hedge End will have a laugh.............
Well the back garden is consumed by concrete and a caravan, so she has no choice. Hey, she might be a Skate! By the way she is probably in her 50's, 5 foot 8, blonde, glasses, skinny
There is no doubt we have changed. We have gone from losing games in the last 5 minutes to winning the and I'm loving it. We are playing until the final whistle and not switching off. I can only put it down to NA's work ethic. I don't know what else it could be. Beddytare, if you sunbathe in your front garden, would you be a bareteddy?
I quite often sit in my front garden and have a beer with my mates, mainly because my front garden faces the west in the evening so you get that extra bit of sun.
