Not for me to speak for Dave but I read it as, take the good stuff from Rodgers, and ignore the talk of whether he is the right man to manage liverpool and any other comments that are starting to bounce around, and just work and focus.
If we allow the media to whip up a vote of no confidence in BR within this year and these Weakass (they appear media sensitive so weakass in that regard) owners react to it, well, then without wanting to sound all doom & gloom, I think it will be the end of any chance of us challenging in any meaningful way for a long time, if ever again. That kind of instability can't happen & be successful, unless you're throwing money at it. The media don't give a stuff if BR is the right man or not, if they can engineer the perception of failure & get enough of us to believe it they have 3 stories instead of none: fan unrest that they create, owners making panicky decisions, yet another manager out the door. Remember sports journalists don't report news, they create it. So I think, mistakes aside we are going to have to knuckle down & see this 3 years out and see if "the plan" works. Most of me thinks it will; as long as we don't pressure these owners: I just don't think they have the confidence in this area yet to take it. Anyone that wants BR gone to prove a point or a "get back" for past injustices perceived or real is being self serving and will possibly be aiding and abetting the further deterioration of our club. Anyone that thinks we can judge a manager after 7 competitive games is just wrong. Or they should be our next manager if they are that damned expert at this game. I know I'm not. Big difference in specific criticism for specific errors and calling for heads.
Good post Frank, I agree with most of it. Whilst I agree with needing to stay strong through the inevitable media barrage, sadly too many will be sucked into it like sheep. The trouble is this was always the danger with an inexperienced manager in his first real challenge, the appointment provided too easy an outlet and ammunition should things start slowly. Some of us voiced this even before the appointment, and with the opening fixtures, added to the danger that this may happen. With that said I hope the majority can ignore the press bullshit and at least look at where we are after 19 games. Its a tough one because Kenny was sacked last season when it seems the majority were in favour of at least one more season, now perhaps FSG just wanted to start their new policy immediately or perhaps they bowed to the media pressure, who knows but it provides us with evidence of just how easy those in charge can be swayed!
Another great post and interesting read DF. What I will say though is that there is the danger of labelling anyone who disagrees with BR or the owners as mere sheep because the media are pointing out (and undoubtedly dwelling on) the problems at Anfield. Believe me I for one am not pissed with the owners because of anything I've heard on Talkshite or read in the papers. I'm pissed with them because they keep making basic errors. I'm pissed with them for mishandling the Suarez affair, for allowing Comolli to go mental with the chequebook, for the manner of Kennys departure, for selling out to Murdochs Fox network for a few measly dollars.and obviously for the debacle of the last couple of weeks. Do I think we'd benefit from new owners? No not really as we could just as easily end up with another huge millstone of debt around our necks. However they have had enough chances now that they need to start getting things right and start putting the priorities into on field matters as much as their business dealings. I made it plain from day one that I will back BR because he is in the job and he does want us to play a good style of football. Do I think he will make mistakes? Of course he will as they all do. Rafa made plenty and so did Kenny. Barring a totally disastrous league campaign then he must be given time. For his part though he must learn to be flexible if his ideas and philosophies are costing us points every week. I understand he has a vision, a vision that will require time and patience. What BR has to understand is that its not going to be a straight path to get us there so he has to be patient too and not expect to be able to implement it overnight.
Exactly Shanks: Everyone has their favourite past manager and believes they should have been given more time or money but unfortunately they are gone and we now have BR. Lets not repeat the same mistake with him as with all those others just to say it's only fair... and support should never be unconditional other than to the club as an ideal. We're loyal without question to the Name of Liverpool FC, those acting in it's name have to earn that trust and respect. Quite right Billy, Anyone thats read your posts on here would never call you a sheep. You're exactly what I was talking about: Not afraid to ask questions, Not afraid to tell the manager or owners they were wrong on x or y but you dont whip it up into hsyteria to the point where myth becomes reality and we've given up on another " new start". We will get there this time, I honestly do think it. might take longer thank any of us like and I guarantee a half dozen or so more embarassing cockups lol but it will happen!
I can live with the mistakes to a certain extent DF because human nature is human nature but I still get the nagging feeling they weren't just innocent mistakes...the major reason being that telling BR a certain players too old just as the transfer window slams shut seems like an almighty shafting rather than just a mere cock-up (no pun intended). Anyhoooo there's **** all can be done now except what I do every weekend which is turn up shout and roar the team on then spend my evenings moaning to you lot I just want us to be boss again Ps....baa
