I want Pompey to get to the final and be the first team to boycott a trip to Wembley. After all they wouldn't want to win a tin pot trophy...as they have said so many times before.
One can only hope that, should they win the JPT, Pompey's financial situation does not get worse. I mean, can you imagine them having to put up with the accusation that they bought the JPT with money they didn't have.....
All very humerous. I really don't want that paint pot, even if it means another trip to Wembley. I'm all Wembley'd out.
Chainrai's on his way to B&Q with twenty quid even as we speak. I don't know who he borrowed it from though
I wouldn't waste money at B&Q, I have a few cans in my shed if that's any good dev. In fact a lovely Scarlet red and a unopened tin of Brilliant White.
Going back to the original content of the thread: Saints fans know, through experience, that the early rounds of the JPT are even less appealing than the early rounds of the League Cup. The fact that it was on the telly will have decided it for most of those who "may have gone". All said and done, the 5,979 attendance at Fratton park last night was the highest of all the JPT ties that were played. The next highest was 5,437 for Coventry City v Burton and the lowest was just 752, at the match between Scunny and Notts Co.
I take your point, out of interest how much lower do you think the attendance would have been if it was say a league 2 club with very little away support and not near local rivals with a decent enough support?
I'd gestimate Bournemouth brought a grand total of 300 fans. To answer your question however, the gate would be lower. Just as your gate vs Wigan was lower than it was against Man U. I'm happy with the result though. Any win of any kind is good. I was looking forward to a nice away trip under the lights in the next round, but seeing as my recently acquired college timetable see's me finish at 4:30 on a Tuesday, that my be out of the question.
Did Pompey win last night, havent seen this many Skates on here for ages? Amazing what a win in the "paint pot trophy" does isnt it.
So Bournemouth brought 300 fans on a Tuesday night to a dump in Portsmouth (Fratton Park) and Portsmouth fans brought 500 fans to Liverpool in the Premier League. Portsmouth fans must really feel emboldened when signing, "blue army, blue army, blue army."
My skate mate made me laugh. Upon sarcasticly congratulating him on the progression to round 2 of the 'Paint Pot Trophy' as he called it like many other skates when we won it. His reply was "well if it means we get some dulux to paint fratton park i am happy". My reply to that erm.... Johnstone Paint Trophy the name sort of gives it away it wouldnt be dulux.
From watching them yesterday, they stand very little chance to win it. It is therefore just a distraction from the league for them, in the scheme of things.
I watched about 30 min last night and thought it was a very good end to end game with talent on both sides. Bournemouth had the better chances and Barnard got some expected stick with his misses. I thought the attendance was good for a first round, live on tv game , blimey we only had 5,000 for Ajax. Godders if I took a paint pot to Portsmouth I would probably have to put it on my head for protection.
Wednesday night, on TV, all but relegated and we still took 500 to Anfield. Was actually a public holiday as well so there was no/little public transport. And yet the passion stood out. please log in to view this image
The passion stood out with 2 fans holding a plastic sign up. 500 is poor considering you won't be playing Liverpool any time soon, and most Pompey fans probably knew that when you played them.
