Don't think there was any need to race, he'd have been there for a while without any buyers coming in for him.

On a pay to play basis, in the right set up, he'd actually be very useful for someone.

But it's a one year deal lol.

Do you reckon Huth and Shawcross will be able to see him to hit him with a 'visionary' pass from the other end of the pitch...?

Honestly? Despite how much he screwed us over, I want him to do well at Stoke and get back into the England set up. I feel it's a crying shame that a career that started with such promise has remained so unfulfilled. Can't bring myself to hate him.

Thought Stoke had quite a few options up front, Jones, Walters, Crouch, Jerome and now Owen. How many games is he going to get?

I can understand how some of us can't bring ourselves to hate Carroll. I love Carroll myself, but Owen?

We brought him here in our dark years, payed him ridiculous wages, and he cost us around a million quid a goal. He had a **** period before we got relegated, and instead of trying to help us out of the CC, and get us back up, he decided to go and sit on United's bench.

He can go **** himself. He owed us a season of hard work, and he could have stayed and carried on a decent career. But he decided to be a wages/glory hunter.

Jones is the better striker IMO, but it's all about the system. They like to knock balls up to crouch, who'll knock down for Walters who's an attacking mid.

Jerome is a lot like Nile Ranger. Very quick over a long distance. Strong and tall, but never had the time to develop into something special.

His contract was up, he had no obligation to stay. As for his ridiculous wages - He took what was offered to him by the board. Blame Freddie Shepherd for that.

Always thought Jones looked a decent prospect when he was at Sunderland (especially with Bent), but appears to have gone off the boil since Crouch arrived. Wonder if Owen could link in behind both Jones and Crouch like he did with Viduka and Martins, they'd have to change their entire structure to do that though.

And the lack of effort on the pitch? The shunning on local journalists despite being club captain? The subsequent jibes at our club on twitter? Who do we blame for those?

There's no law to say who we as Newcastle fans should and shouldn't like, but I'm with the majority, I hope the prick flops and looks back on his career one day and realises it was HIS fault it flopped...Yeah he's had injuries, terrible ones at terrible times, but his attitude stinks and his application was poor towards the end and that's the difference between a world class player and player of world class potential!

Even with that lack of effort he was still top scorer in the 08/09 and 07/08 seasons. Third top scorer in 05/06 despite only playing 11 games.

I don't believe there's any requirement for the captain to have to talk to journalists. Colo certainly doesn't do it very often. When Owen did speak to the press he was always said positive things about the club, long before he was given the captaincy.

The stuff on twitter was a blatant joke and everyone except deluded bitter idiots like yourself could see it.

No one's saying you should like him. All I'm saying is that this idea that a lot of people have that he "owes" the club anything is ridiculous.
